View Full Version : Adding variable speed to Taiyo Edge R/C EdgeRunners

With help from several people here, I purchased two Taiyo Edge R/C
EdgeRunner Stunt Cars for my grandkids -- ages 5 and 6. Naturally, I
had to "test" them to make sure they were working properly. ;-)

They go really fast and there is only one speed. There are two
controls -- one for the left wheels and one for the right wheels. Each
control has a forward and a backward, but no variable speed.

What would it take to modify these to have variable speed? I'm
guessing that it would be nearly impossible to do from the controller
because (a) the motors are probably not variable speed and (b) the
controller is only sending a "go" signal -- well, two signals: "go
forward" and "go backward" for each pair of wheels.

Would it be possible to install some sort of a governor thag wold cut
power? If these had a switch on the bottom of the car that I could set
to half-speed or full-speed, that would be a huge improivement.

I am concerned that because of their ages, they will break them before
they learn to control them.

Thanks

I got one for my son a couple birthdays ago. The full on/off shouldn't be a problem, just teach them to 'pulse' it.

As long as they don't run straight into some hard object like a rock they should be ok as well.
