I'm thinking about changing my computer display to a flat panel. Does anyone know if the flight simulator's graphics will display correctly on a flat panel?
I know that some game's graphics don't update properly and I wanted to check if this is the case with the flight simulators.

It wont be any different than a game, an LCD monitor doesn't have as fast of a refresh rate as a tube monitor. For the same price you could get a VERY large tube monitor that would look much better for games.

I think I read that some flat screen displays update slower than others, which can leave a "ghosting" effect. So I'd be careful about reading the specs of whatever you're thinking of buying (ideally try it out in a shop first even if you're planning on getting it mail-order).

I fly the FMS simulator on a 20" flat panel monitor and have no graphics problems at all.

High Quality "pro" 17 -19" LCD monitors are fine - much more expensive than high quality flat CRT trinitron even at 21" size. don't go for low price 15" LCD.

Yep but you will pay LOTS for them too.

Thanks to all.
Captain Ed, what kind of flat panel do you have?

The space taken up by the CRT vs the flat panel is a major consideration. I'm talking a 19" or better display.

I will try to talk the dealer into letting me load the sim. to test their monitor. I wonder how that will go?!!

Shouldnt be a problem if he wants to make the sale.

I have a DLP projector hooked up to my game PC. It works really well with all the sims but requires a lot of space. I project from the ceiling across a 13 foot room to a 6 foot diagonal screen on the opposite wall. I sit just 6 feet from the screen. Pretty impressive and it makes model control a lot easier than smaller screens.

If you want to combine TV and the PC, the manufacturers (Samsung, Sony) are now using the new HD DLP chip in rear projection TVs that have enough resolution for a computer to run.
They would be excellent if you can afford them ($3600 at Fry's).
