Hi just a thought are any of you compensating for the lack of fuel when doing ic conversions?eg ic balance with empty fuel tank so when doing electric c/g would it be better to allow say for 1/2 a tank?
Because my magic compared with my mates ic version is a lot more twitchy with the same movements etc and we put this down to c/g difference with fuel added.
Hope this makes sense.

If there is NOTHING different between the two planes except c.g., then that's the reason.
But control throws, expo, d/r, flying weight, pilot preferences... these must be considered and allowed for.

With respect to your question there maybe two issues: CG and “mass at the ends”.

With respect to CG; does your friends get twitchier as the flight progresses? Have you shifted you pack to be a bit more nose heavy (i.e. equal to ˝ tank)?

I think that in spite of the interesting responses I got, its better to have the nose droop just a bit for those 1st few flights – its inherently safer. Move the pack back after a few flights.

I would think that an electric would actually be better with respect to the 2nd issue; unless the E is using a big and heavy direct drive or outrunner.

I learned of this when setting up my full scale racing/cruiser, a 28” fractional sloop that could sleep 5.

Basically they said having weight in the ends (i.e. anchors) would make the boat pitch more. Have less pitch dampening; as compared to having the weight nearer the GC.

So it would seem to me that a big glow engine out front could cause this more than a lighter electric motor.
