Hello,

How would I determine what size plane would work for my Thunder tiger .10? I want to resize a large plane to work with my small engine. Is there a formal to follow????

Thanks.

I've seen .10's used on models from 30 inch span to 50 or more inch span depending on the TYPE of design it is.

More, MUCH more info please.....

And bear in mind that if you're reducing a 60 size model down then the structure is going to completley change. You can shrink the outlines but you need to design your own innards. If you can keep the amount of scaling down to a minimum the original structure retains a lot more of it's suitability.

Hi BMatthews,

Thanks for the reply. First of I just got back into this, its bin 26 years and everything we did back then was built from plains or kits. I have bin flying some electrics for about 6 months. I was looking for a winter project. I have cad plains for a CAD Kaos 58" span .60 engine and I wanted to make one small-enough for my .10. What do you think?????

Yep, that's doable. In fact there was a mini Kaos for 1/2A a few years back. For the 10 anywhere from 36 to 40 inches will ensure a hot fast performer. The 40 inch size will offer a bit more wing area to let it slow down more for landing but, unless you can build it very light, it'll temper the vertical performance. You may want to cheat a little bit and go for 36 to 38 inch span and increase the chords of both the wing and stabilizer by 10% for a bit more wing area. Most folks won't notice but it'll definetley help the low speed side of things. The vertical should be made about 5% larger to compensate for the other two.
