newbie question: whats wrong with my buggy?

About a year ago I bought my first RC car: a Tamiya XB Super Manta Ray RTR
buggy
I havent touched it for about 12 months. Nothing has been upgraded on the
buggy.

Recently just got interested in RC again and charged up a battery.
The buggy behaved like the last time I ran it - nothing out of the ordinary
(for the few seconds I
ran it indoors anyway)

On a whim I purchased a Tamiya Super Stock Motor Type-T and put it into the
buggy.
I place the buggy so the wheels don't touch the ground and push the trigger
on my transmitter.
In terms of spinning, the wheels appear to look (and sound) faster.
However there are 2 problems. As the wheels initially start to spin up there
is a very loud
screeching type of noise. After a second or two (when the wheels reach their
maximum speed)
the screeching isn't there. As the wheels slow down again (by letting go of
the trigger
on the transmitter) the screeching noise is there again. I do not know where
the noise
is coming from, it sound like something is making contact with something it
should not -
I'm not sure I'm even describing the sound correctly. I do know for sure
it does not sound right and did not occur when I had my old motor in.

Secondly, the buggy goes very much slower than it did before I replaced the
motor.

Can someone help me?

Did you make sure there is the proper amount of play between the pinion
(the little gear) and the spur (the bigger gear)?

Is the pinion aligning with the spur or is it off center?

Did you make sure there is the proper amount of play between the pinion

loose motor pinion, or
Possibly you installed the motor wrong and the pinion and gear arent meshing - the
screeching is the sound of the pinion grinding off the tops of the gear teeth.

loose motor pinion, or
Possibly you installed the motor wrong and the pinion and gear arent meshing - the
screeching is the sound of the pinion grinding off the tops of the gear teeth.

I took the pinion off the old motor and put it onto the new motor making
sure it was near
the same position as possible. Its been suggested to me ball bearings is the
problem.
What are ball bearings? (where are they located?)

I took the pinion off the old motor and put it onto the new motor making
sure it was near
the same position as possible. Its been suggested to me ball bearings is the
problem.
What are ball bearings? (where are they located?)
