I have a 100 inch glassed foam-core-wing thermal glider and was wondering what servos to consider for the flaps.

I have used Hitec 85's on the flaps of 6 3m and 100" TD planes and will use them on the next one. I have used metal gear 85's some but I think I prefer the BB's now. They have less slop and hold up well. I strip gears about once a year . It only takes a few $s and a few minutes to change gears. If they were giving me problems I would look into more expensive servos but it ain't broke at this point.

In my ships I have used many types, but my favorate one is the HS 85 MG. They do have a little slop, but for flaps they are fine, for ailerons I have found that the HS 81 MG is the best.. They both cost around here $30 each..

Thanks all!
The HS 81-MG are a little less at Servo City with free shipping so I guess I will go with them. Thanks again.

Does your plane go straight up on launch? Does the winch strain and cry for mercy when you go up?
If so, then read on...
The HS81 or 85BB may be too light weight for flaps. Here's why.
I and others have used 85BB's on ailerons and stripped the gears just from the launch loads. I consider the 85BB great servos, just not for flaps.
Also, if you do not always retract your flaps just before touchdown, then MG gears are a must. (if you like changing servo gearsets, make sure you do not glue the servo in where it is painful to get out.)
I'd recommend 225MG, if your wing is thick enough (.6 in). HS-225BB is fine, if you don't want MG's. If budget is less of an issue, I recommend Volz MicroMaxx-X, or JR 368.
If your plane does not launch vertical out of your hand or you use a gentle tap-tap-tap on the pedal, then the HS-85BB should be fine.
Note: Any brand of metal gear servo will have more slop than nylon gears, at least after 6 months of use.
