I just aquired an Aquila and was wondering where to start with the CG. Also I don't plan on doing any hard winch launches with this aircraft , but I was wondering if there are any modifcations I should consider. I do plan to enter a few Nostalgia events

Extend the rudder hinge line to the top of the rudder, the area ahead of the hinge line is added to the fin. This will reduce maneuvering drag but make it illegal for Nostalgia competition. the speed range can be increased at the high end by using 3/32 sheeting on the bottom of the D-tube and sanding in a little (1/16 inch) up sweep to the leading edge spar. This airfoil modification was used on the Aquila that Miller used to win the 1980 F3B championship. Add a strip of carbon fiber to the top sparcap on the root wing panels for additional spar strength and stiffness.

I got my first one hour flight with a stock Aquila about 1976. i loved that plane.

I'll check the CG in my instruction book tonight for this plane.

Start right on the spar, and move it back a bit at a time as you get used to it. Flys awsome.

Published CG is about 1/8" behind the back of the wing rod.

The booklet does not mention CG. I think it was on the plans and those I can't find. I'd go with the earlier recommendations.

One thing I did notice in the booklet was a recommendation to ballast the plane! I may have to try that.

Thanks to all who answered my question regarding C/G.
I have a favor to ask, and that is can anybody provide a copy of the Booklet that came with the Aquila. I will gladly pay for any copying and shipping costs. I hope to post a picture of the Aquila
this week

I have my plans at home. The Aquila is my winter build, after not having built one since '77. Please advise if you still need the CG from the plans.
