I love my Slow Stick -- it was the plane that finally got me to fly! Had a few planes that were disasters -- including a Zagi as a "learner". Now have over 300 flights on the SS and it's still going strong.
I have an extra SS kit, and was considering removing the wing tips back to the outboard aileron line. Have heard that this will make it fly better and not be so vulnerable to wind.
Has anyone tried this? and if so, what were your results?
Thanks
Steve

Removing the SS wing tips is great way to improve its performance. With the shorter wing, the SS is still very stable but some of the floating characteristics disappear. I've done this mod to a couple of SS's and highly recommend it. And yes, it will handle wind better. But remember, it's still a lightweight parkflyer.
Cheers!

I have a Mini AC 16 brushless motor on my SS. Is there any reason to avoid the shorter wing with my motor?
Thanks!

Steve,
The SlowStick is made by GWS. Check out this link for manufacturer's info:
http://www.gws.com.tw/english/product/airfly/slow%20stick.htm
Also, if you're interested in the SS, you've come to the right place! Look in the Beginner Training Area under Aircraft/Electric/E Zone Forums and find the thread "The Ultimate Slow Stick Help Thread" and read up. (Do some searching and try and find the beginning of the thread as it has grown considerably and is now on Part 2).
Good Luck

I fly my slowstick with a brushless motor and clipped wings. Love it, wouldn't get rid of it if I had to!!!!

Me and a couple friends fly slow sticks with a flat wing (take out the v-bend or dihedral), clipped or trimmed wing tips, ailerons and brushless motors. They are essentially a great stunt plane.
We actually use them for combat. We get them up in the air and dance around each other, trying to knock each other out of the sky.
Last time we were up my friend Tony drove his slow stick right through my left wing. Bore his prop right through, and they came tumbling out of the sky intertwined in a heap. We untangled them, I taped the gaping hole in my wing back up, and we went back up.
The time before that, my friend Christian and I were flying around each other, and I lined up with him from above, and did a dive on him. But I barely missed him and dove past him. Then he dove down on me and sliced my rudder off with his prop. I was out. Next time I put the SS up, it was acting funny and getting all sorts of interference, so I brought it down. Turns out on the prior engagement, he had ALSO sliced through my receiver wire, which was hanging open and touching the metal frame. Bad! So I taped it up and went up again.
I've had this same Slow Stick for 4 months and had dozens of crashes & mid-air collision, and it still flies great. In fact, while my kids were out tonight shooting off fireworks and banging pans when we hit new years, I was up with my SlowStick (glow wires on the wings) flying it around the neighborhood doing stunts. The neighbors were all cheering.
It's really a great plane. Easily repairable, easily mod'ed, powerful, and FUN.

Wind_of_Change ,
SlowStick (glow wires on the wings). How much weight did that add. I'd like to fly mine at night during the week and your Idea sounds great. Got any Pics ?

I've been interested in night flying my Slowstick also for after work during the winter. I just ordered a set of LED lights to try out. You can check them out at toddsmodels.com using the link below:

I'm looking forward to trying them out.

Appy2day & MaxxTrip,
I've got another thread on the electro luminescent (E.L.) wires that has some good info in it. Has pics of my Projeti and Slow Stick all lit up.
The wires and inverter add a couple ounces. Actual weight depends on how long your wires are, whether you have more wire between the inverter & glowire than you really need, etc.
The slow stick can handle a lot of weight, but you shouldn't use more E.L. wire than you need, partly for weight, and partly because the longer the wires are the dimmer they glow.
Anyway, there's a ton of information in this thread.

Let me know if you have any other questions beyond what's in the thread.

Thanks for the link to the other thread. I took some time and researched the glow wire this after noon.
OK, I'm hooked. I'll have to put in an order for the Glow wire tomorrow for my Slow Stik. Night flying hear I come. Thanks for all the info guys.

Steve, I mayh be replying to this late but I have a slow stick that I actually cut out the aileron lines, used packing tape for hinges and mounted 2 micro servos to articulate each one. I cannot imaging trying to fly without this set up.

Hi i fly with the standard 3 channel set up with no problems at all. Have built my own wing and tail too. c my own posts. But i may build another wing to make it upto 4 channels.
