Picked one up and it is an awesome littel truck. Needs oil shocks (comeing) and forget the 4AA power - I am using 2S 1950 TP lipoly cells and it really perfroms well.

Interested in hearing other's setups and sharing information.

I picked up one as well... I have not done much with it yet though other than play with it.

One of the first thing most of the guys are doing is putting in washers behind the axel pin to take up the slope.

In chatting with some of the other guys I have heard everything from a Acro 280BB motor put into it to a Graupner 300, today I saw someone doing a speed 400 conversion. The day that they were released I happened to stop by Hacker USA, and they were testing it with a Li-Poly cell, and were about to pick out a B20 motor to put into it.

Here is a link to a video of one with a Acro 280 BB motor & a 6 cell pack:
Higher quality: http://www.rcpics.net/media/Mini-T.wmv
Lower quality: http://www.rcpics.net/media/Mini.wmv

Personally, I think I am going to go with a Razor, or Mamba motor for it. That all relys on Castle Creations finishing up their mamba project. If it is going to take any make length of time I might just slap in the Turbo Coreless motor from Peak Motors, www.peakmotors.com.

Since I don't have a Triton charger yet I might also stick with 2/3A Kan Cells. I do have 8 GP2000 AA cells, maybe I can use them in this application as well.

I am also looking for someone who is going to put out Oil shocks for this car, do you know anyone who has advertised it yet?

I found a set of Sealed bearings for it on Ebay, so that was the first upgrade ordered. The seller runs: www.hobbybearings.com Keep me up to date on your MiniT.

I just installed a Razor RZ350 last night on 12V (3 lipoly cells) it screams. I think the micro car motor would be a better match as I really could use a larger pinion that I am running now (10 tooth). As is, on 3 lipoly cells it will pull the front end when you punch it from half throttle (at speed). I can't wait for the Mamba to come out. You can sort of get by with an aircraft controller for the time being if necessary.

Prior to that I ran the 280bb which is a great match to this model in my opinion. Ran that with 2S lipoly cells.

I am running a modified HS55 for steering using the stock servo output shaft and servo saver. Seems to be working good and I bashed it a good deal last night.

I need bearing bad as my bushing have too much slop in them. Back wheels really wobble a bunch and the front squeek!

Wow, sqeaks that bad huh! I think I will wait till the bearings come in to shim the axels to kill the slope, besides I have only played outside with it once on the big tract during practice. It was funny watching the guys blow by me in the 1:10th buggies and statium trucks. The laughter was none stop that night with 3 of use running around the rest.

If that thing is wheeling now when you punch it at half throttle, imagine when you put the bearings in.

I will wait till the mamba comes out then if you are saying that it would be a better match. Heh, I am almost tempted to pull out that GWS300 motor I have and see if it is any better. I doubt it though.

How did you modify that HS55 servo? I don't have one here to compare to the one in there for size or anything. I bet it has to do way better than the stock one. I know where I can pick one up.

Hey Streve I got a mini T the other week and I have bearings oil shocks all around 2 cell 1500 kokams fully upgraded radio servos and esc. I have even found a way to use a donor hs 55 to make a 4 wire servo that plugs right into the stock radio gear! Great for saving money on a total radio system upgrade just replace the bum steering servo thy give you in the kit.
Here is a pic of the truck.

We are having a blast with them and I know you are too with that BL set up. The track we run on is very short so a bl would be overkill. The 370 hummingbird motor i run im mine is plenty. Do you have any tread left on your tires with all that power?.....lol

Powerline racing shocks for the mini z on the front and kose brand on the rear. The Powerlines can be bought at www.powerlineracing.com item#smz-009. I purchased the rears at the local shop so I dont know where to get them online.

TeamTEOR
Dec 04, 2003, 11:23 AM
Thanks for the powerline info.

Do you think you can tell us about what size those rears are? I was even going to look at the small Duratraxx shocks. Since we don't need super high end ones for such a small and light car. The Duratraxx shocks worked well on a old Rustler I had, never broke under major abuse.

nofuelheli
Dec 04, 2003, 01:03 PM
The rears are touring car size. Most any will do. A feiend of mine is running HPI touring car shocks on the rear of his and he says they work great.

I've seen Troy's video and it really cooks.

Picked up a set of bearings today at the LHS - $20.00. Certainly takes out the slop from the front end. I need some shims for the back though.

I worked on my track a bit today - trying to smooth the ground and remove the grass. Dragging some fence with concrete blocks on them behind the tractor. Takes forever. I hope some chainlink will do better as it has the 'cheese grater' effect going on.

Planning on a track about 75 x 50 feet. Should be about teh right size for a pair of Mini-Ts to race upon I hope.

Hope the factory shocks come out soon - I suppose I could follow the above directions, but the factory shocks are supposed to be fairly cheap.

Troy - why not tell us about some of the items you have or are working on that will work with the mini-t? I am certain there would be some interest here.

Thanks for the info guys!

How much did that setup cost ya? Also where did you get it? It is so hard to find Lehner stuff now. That is all I pretty much run. What is the gearing that you use as well? I am still looking for a good solid hop up for a servo, I have not heard anything good or bad for any yet. Are you still using the stock one? I am wondering what that extra wire is on that orginal servo. I bet you have gone through a few tires already as well. The only hop up so far my MiniT is a set of Blue Sealed Bearings I got off of Ebay for $12. They just got here today, so I will install them in the morning. I just want to go to Ace hardware to find some good washers to use as shims for the rear.

What setup do you have in your T3? I run a basic 4200 and a Warrior 7018/3 on 6 cells. I get up to about 32 mph on geared at 19/87 with pleanty of run time. I also put on a set of Imex 2.2 J-hawg tires since the prolines M2 tires never seem to last any ammount of time for me. I have also changed out all bushings in the whole truck for some nice sealed bearings.

Hello Steve, right now I am working on the Lehner Brushless motor/controller combos which will be up on our site tonight. ETA on the combos is 2-3 weeks. Also under the Kokam1500 webpage you will find special pricing on 2 cell packs & charger combos for under 60 dollars. These packs are perfect for the Mini-T with TP 1900 pack combos to come soon.

I will also be offering CNC motor plates that allow you to bolt in the Lehner/Hacker/Razor/BigBlock(speed300) motors without having to take out the Dremel. These will come free with all motor/controller combo kits for the Mini-T and will be offered separately for anyone who wants to use them with other motors.

TeamTEOR, we are now stocking a very nice line up of the Lehner motors now. I am updating the page tonight with ordering information. The 1015 motor I used is currently out of stock but on order and due in 2-3 weeks. Check our site tomorrow for more info. For my T3 I used a 7.4v 6000ma Kokam Li-poly pack made from the 1500 cells. This pack is a little hotter than most 6 cell packs. The BASIC motor is a great motor but I feel that is is more suited for on-road cars. I use the BASICXL 4200 geared 24/81. This combo has tons of torque & speed. I will have combos on this motor up late tonight also. Again we sold out of the small shipment of motors we had but have another on its way and due here in about 2-3weeks. This motor will work well with your Warrior 7018. Thanks

Picked up my Mini-T this afternoon at my LHS. Fun little truck to be sure! They also got in all the replacement parts as well as bodies, wheels, tires (just the stock ones though) and the bearing kit. $14.99 is cheap for 8 bearings. I was going through the scematic for the truck and noticed that Losi was nice enough to provide the tranny bearings for us. With how loud my gearbox is, I was beginning to wonder. I picked up the 1100 mAh 7.2v pack and the Mini-T will wheelie with ease on a fresh pack. One thing I was most impressed with was how well it can climb. I have a small hill that runs through a flower garden that has bushes and large rocks in it. There is a path just a hair larger than the Mini-T is long. The path averages a 40% grade with one spot thats about 50%. As long as I keep the power steady and avoid wheelspin, I can make it up the grade. A buddy of mine has a Mini-Z Overlander thats totally hopped up and could never even get to the 50% grade, let alone the top. I find the Mini-T to jump very well off of the larger speed bumps that have the gradual front and rear approaches. I was averaging about 5 feet of distance. I could go further, but the jump wasn't clean and would usually crash. As it is, full throttle to the jump, coast for the last 4 feet, then punch it as you go up the ramp. Beautiful jumps that land on all fours...will need to add in some preload to hopefully not bottom out. All initial testing was done on a totally stock Mini-T. Bearings will be installed tomorrow.

Has anyone found the right size washers or shims to be used on the axels? I have been too busy with putting up the tree, lights & wrapping presents to be able to get into it, but I want to run out to the LHS or ACE and pick up something to fix that slope in the next day or two.

Have not tried it myself, but it looks to be a shim with an ID or 4-5mm and an OD of 12mm with a thickness of 1mm.

Very nice! I am about to put in a 5400kv or 4000kv HiMax motor in mine. Have you seen the video in which someone put in a Lehner 1015/12 motor in his? It is real fast.

I would have thought that Phoenix 10 would have not liked that type of operation being that it is a airplane controller. I was hoping to find a BK Warrior4018 with the R/C car software or something in that realm. I do have a Warrior7018 setup like that, but I am afraid it would be overkill. LOL. Is that Phoenix10 cutting out because of the weight or just not putting out enough amps to reach top speed?

Hopefully by the end of the month we can get the Losi oil shocks to help with things.

The controller doesn't cut out, its just limited with no brake or reverse. I used it because it was laying around. The soft start can be bummer, but is good on the gearbox. Now I just need some good shocks and bearings.

BRP RACING has some new stuff for the T. I ordered some bearings, wheel shims and a larger bumper. Replaced the stock springs with black ones. They have oiled filled shocks but at $50, I think Ill wait. I put a speed 300 on mine with 2 cell 1200 Etecs. Wheelies on demand but I really need some street tires. Fast but my micro RS4 modded out is SCARY fast. Nice truck and waiting for the aluminum goodies to show up.

Great little truck, got mine yesterday.I put in 370 Hummingbird motor, bearings, and 600mah 8.4 volt.Plus went through and took out gear cover, motor cover, servo cover, and rx-esc bracket.Just mounted battery and rx-esc side by side. cut out windows and slot in back for less weight and better cooling. I would also like to here about that servo 55 with 4 wire conv. I have a 16/15/5 mega motor. Will these kits work with the ones coming out soon for other brushlessmotors? If anyone knows answers to any of these questions, can you please reply?Like to know more and share ideas.

I don't know about the 16/15 series but the /5 wind is a little too cool to get a lot of speed out of the MiniT. I'd go with the /2 or /3. I'm using an MPJet 25/35/20 mk1 so far so good.

Well I've been running my Mini-T around and finally got it setup like I wanted. I'm using the MPJet listed above and 3S IRate 2200 cells. The just barely fit in the battery compartment, but fit very well after a little dremeling. With an 18t pinion the Mini-T is well over 40mph, and possibly pushing 50mph. It's hard to keep it on the ground now, but sure is a lot of fun passing cars on the highway! Now to get some aluminum parts for those 40mph cartwheels that play havoc on my steering system!

It is great depending on where you drive it. If the surface is hard or packed you will be fine. Mine seems to be holding up pretty well. There is only one part I have replaced, and that is the little plate that holds clip to hold the RX radio in place. My first big jump took that out. I will soon pick up one in metal, so that won't be a issue anymore.

Hey guys, I am tring to get together a group buy for Mini-T Shocks. I am not looking to turn a profit, but just to get a oil filled set around to some of us. I have been in contact with the nice people over at GPM Racing. They told me that my cost would be about $8.90 for a set of 2 shocks, either front or rear. Then there is the normal shipping via fedex, import tax, and a 4% fee if I pay by credit card. Also they have told me I can order these colors: purple, silver, blue, black, red, green, golden black, or grey silver. If anyone is interested let me know, so far I have 4 sets that people want. I would even be willing to order from a more local source, but it seems as everyone is out of stock on them.

I have pleanty of references for buying and selling, so there is no need to worry, plus I would give you my home address and number so you know that you can always reach me.

I installed a himax 6800 in the car. WOW, it is too fast to do much with on a 3s pack.
I went back to 6 and 7 cell Kans, and in 30 minutes i have destroyed 1 set of rear tyres, melted a pinion, destroyed the mip cv's and had heaps of fun.
I have a mamba 5400 comming as well, i think that will be plenty for me, and i will run it on 6 and 7 cell kans, no need to risk lipo's in the car, it is fast enough as it is.

Ozace, did you by chance take a reading of how many amps you were pulling?
No but the kans 1050's came out hot and flat after 10 mins (6cell)
the 650 kans (7cell) also came out hot.
I would not risk my lipoly packs just yet as i think 10c 1500 would be the minimum and i only have one at the moment.
because i only play and dont race, i think kans are more suitable and robust for the task. i originally wanted to go quick but after seeing it, its not what i need 7 cell kans are plenty fast .

I like the way it runs on the Mamba5400 motor & Mamba esc a bit better since it is not as hard on the batteries as the Hacker master car mini and the Nemsis200-15s. If I had better battery parks it would be worth it to use the Nemsis motor and the Mamba controller. Part of the problem is that the Hacker controller has this annoying softstart built into it. It would almost be like driving the Mini-T with a Turbo boost! It would start going forward and then SNAP like you punched a Nitro button, because of this annoyance it was very hard to controll the car. So I think the problem is when it went WOT it would really pull an unresonable ammount of amps and cause the battery packs to take some damage. I did run the car with a temp gauge and the heat with both systems are almost the same. VERY COOL, I don't think we can really damage the them at all as long as we stay out of the water. I am running on 6 cell 1050 CBP Kans clones, and 6 1100 Kans.

rchotrod
May 31, 2004, 12:28 AM
I got to run my mini-sprint sat night. And it ran really well on just the Losi Sport motor and an orion 6cell pack. Did try my li-po for a short time to see the difference and it wasn't as much as you would think. Although the weight savings made a bigger impact on handling. It was just about right with the heavier 6cell pack. With the lighter li-po it seemed to want to toss out the rear end. But it did look cool sliding around the turn like a real sprinter. Don't think I will use the li-po, as it is more for my planes.

Also got the rest of the parts to finish the chassis. installed the recers edge links and they work great, but I had to do some grinding on the ball cups to get full travel on the suspension. And the dynamite steering parts worked great. Hardly any slack. Make sure if you get the steering parts, you double check the screws, they can come loose. I put a small bit of lock tite on the screws and that seemed to cure that.

This is one sweet little car. Can't wait to get some real electronics in it and bolt in some real power.

Will try and get a finished pic.

Boy the mamba motors are nice.
I got a 5400 mamba, doesnt seem as fast as the himax 5400, but close enough.

I started stock, then losi sport on 2cell lipoly packs. Not real fast but fun.
Next i tried a speed 300 which was faster again on 2 cell lipoly, but the packs got warm, so i went back to kan cells (6 and 7 cell).
I recieved a mamba controller so i used some himax motors i have 2015-5400 and 6800. i tried the 6800 on 3s pack lipoly, just too fast to do any thing with, and the carnage was awsome, melted pinions and tyres. Now i have the complete mamba 5400 package in with gmp alloy pinion (15) and spur (61) on 6 cell kans.

I tried my li-po pack too, but was too scared to run more than a few minutes. Didn't want to ruin the li-po pack.

I will look into some of the Kan cells. this chassis has lots of room to play with different packs.

What kind of run times are you getting with the Kans? Will they make 5 min at full throttle?

See ya,
Rod

Ozace, how do you like that gearing? What would you change it to if you could?

Has anyone found any of those nicer Team Orion tires? I am talking about the ones that are a little larger than the stock tires.

I am hoping the guy selling the 7075 chassis answers my emails, I have blown through 5 stock chassis already.

TT, i wont change anything. I have the 59,60,61 spur and the ali set of pinions. I am happy with the way it is. I have the trinity tires on now (15% bigger), they are nice on chrome rims. I found that with 3 cells it was too fast for controlled bashing around the house (in and out). With the 5400 and 6 cells it just nice, i have tried 8 cells which is about the limit for me.

What motors did you run before the brushless? I have the Losi sport right now, but am starting to look really hard at a Mamba system. Also looking at the Orion motors. And maybe get an airplane esc. I don't need reverse on an oval. Brakes, I don't need no stinkin' brakes! LOL

What pinions do you use? The trinity ones?

See ya,
Rod

Save yourself the headache and pay an extra $10 for a car controller. The airplane esc will not like a pistol grip radio.
