Sunday was a straight line speed event for NAMBA. A bunch of guys came from all over the US and even a group from Germany to compete. You'd be amazed to know the fast runs of the day were 80 plus mph and the fastest was almost 90mph. Many Hacker and Lehner motors were used, along with Lehner and Shulze speed controls. Ever heard of a 250 amp speed control water cooled:eek: ! When they could keep the boats from becoming airplanes these things really hauled butt. A few sunk but some were found. Check out the pics! :D

RC boating is also a lot of fun, I have a 7.5cc tunnel hull that can also approach those type speeds, it's almost like flying except your a 1/2 in. off the water.

Yep, boats are a blast! Had lots of fun with my Graupner Taifun and DPI T-Plus, among others. That reminds me, I've got an outrigger stashed away somewhere I've gotta finish one of these years.....
I eventually got into the nitro boats...Faster, louder, Ahhhh the sweet smell of nitro! :)

I am in a model aircraft club as we have a flying field and have been in a model boat club for 25 years as we have a fully equipped workshop. Lots of the younger guys build electric racing boats in our club, especially the European ECO class.
I have also made a few in my time myself, but will only get back to the water now when the long awaited (1 year!!!) EKRANOPLAN kit turns up from England. A fair compromise between electric planes and boats, I think !

I have an old Graupner Portifino (twin surface drives) that went pretty good back when I ran it years ago. The things I could do to it today! The neat things about boats is you can use water cooling to push envelope!

Troy,
Thanks for posting the photos. There are videos of some of the runs too. Check out http://www.drcwebservices.com/lasaw for generalities and http://www.casrecprop.com/videos for the videos (he has yet to finish linking the two sites). I just had confirmation last night that two of the records were set with ESCs I designed, and there might be some others as well.
Speaking of fast, I just found this while wasting time on CNN:

For a single s400 pusher with Gunther prop . . . and a really old 'MFA Boat Throttle' to give forwards and reverse.
( You never know . . . ! :P )
It has yet to be built though . . . Oh, If only there were more hours in the day, and a lot less during the night ! ( When I work ! ! ! LoL ;) )
