The link to the R/C helicopter, good pilot, shame about the crash,
but it could have been far more expensive.

This is not a website, it is Usenet. It is implemented
using NNTP and not HTTP.

Surely, childhood is no more than an apprenticeship for adulthood?

Why not just tell children the truth?

Why give them false beliefs that are then destroyed (Father Christmas,
Birds & Bees, ITA, etc)

Can it be that childhood as it is represented in the Western World
is prolonged unnecessarily to satisfy some unhealthy emotional
state of Western parents?

If your son asked those questions, what did you tell him? The truth?

If your son is really reading this NG, perhaps via the Web, there
seems to be an incongruity in your repeating the very statements
that you proscribe.

You've obviously never had children or worse still never enjoyed a happy
childhood yourself.
Childhood is such a short and hopefully positively-forming period of
life, that it really is sad if miscreant cynics destroy the illusion too
early. What does it bring them? Take a stroll past your local
Kindergarten sometime and check if you can see which of the children
come from a happy Father-Christmas-type home.

Believe me it'll be an eye-opener.

But it is not Web sites that are under discussion here, this is
Usenet.

Do you know the difference?

To address the point that you raised, however, the abbreviation
"QED" is very much an adult one insofar as a person below the
age of puberty is unlikely to use it.

You did not give a clear warning in advance of using adult
material. Why was this? One rule for you? Do as you say
and not as you do? Hypocrisy, perhaps?

It is not clear as to whom you are responding, but perhaps
your use of the word, "illusion" is indicative of the con-trick
that is played upon children?

There are those that are known as child prodigies and
sometimes who are pitied for their prodigity; but supposing
that their state were to be the natural state for all children?
What a terrible condemnation that would be for those who
keep their children in a false delusion. Remember that adults
who live in a delusional world are treated as mentally ill (except
for the religionists who somehow have wangled social
acceptability for their delusions and make-believe)

As to happiness - yes- it is often the mentally ill who
have a false air of that.

Cross-posting is quite acceptable IF it's relevant to all groups posted to.
Although given that the thread has been off-topic to ALL these groups right

As a 2nd response.... maybe it'd be better if I was a nice type of person
who does everything he can to protect children from the real world
altogether. Someone who builds big playgrounds specifically for kids so they
can play all day and never face the reality of growing up. Someone
like..mmmmm....... Micheal jackson maybe?

Well it's still Ok (legal) to use 27mHz for ANY radio controlled vehicle,
but whether anyone would or not is a different thing.

I used 27 for maybe a couple of years following the move to 35mHz and never
had any problems (it was deep in "CB Time" too) but I'd only use it now for
close in stuff which was already on the ground :-)

maybe
