Would it be a good idea to apply the 10-1 rule to THIS forum, like in the OTD?

Just curious....What's the 10-1 rule?

My reasoning is this.
Most of the people who come to this particular forum and make trouble(and there HAS been trouble in the past) come here for just that reason. To make trouble here. If they actually had to post some sort of CONTRIBUTION to the site, it might limit the dialogue here to people who actually have questions and might have something constructive.
It's the same players, over and over. And I don't see them contributing to the site, only posting to this forum. I understand perfectly the 10-1 rule on the OTD forum, I do think it's clever and keeps things from getting out of hand. You want to talk about politics? Fine. But only if you are a contributing member to this site...who needs people who ONLY come to talk politics?
Notice also that pretty much every post here by these people is also posted at the same time over at RCuseless, which has a venemous and nasty forum for AMA "Topics". I don't think anybody is served by duplicating stuff here.
Opinions?

The 10-1 rule means that you have to contribute 10 posts to actual modelling subjects to contribute one to the off topic discussion. Clever, I think.

The lack of posting in this forum recently indicates to me there is not a problem. Those that want to flame on quickly disappear once they see the threads get locked quickly by our highly appreciated but underpaid mods. It may be the same people posting over & over but the level of rudeness has waned..... in my opinion.
BTW.... I wasn't a huge fan of the 10-1 rule but what the heck - you can always post here!!! :D

Hmmmmmm...another point of view....
I AM a fan of the 10-1. Frankly, if all someone is interested in is posting about the Republocrats or Rush Franken, it's gets very tiresome very fast to talk with them. You already know what they are going to say. Let them find a political site to post on.
I like the idea of an AMA forum that won't be contaminated by the same old players saying the same old thing. Check out RCU...it's horrible. NOTHING productive for AMA comes out of that. These same people post the same thing here, RCU, usenet, anywhere else. Check it out...the EXACT same posts.
Maybe the 10-1 rule would get rid of some of these people and open up the forum to the voices of some OTHER people who might have more legitimate questions or different input.
Now, if one of these people puts a lousy ten posts onto other forums on this site, well, they earned the right to at least one post here.

I'm with Bud and IC, whats the point.
If you want to have productive, civil dialogs here, start them. We've had some great threads here.
But please don't flame other members no matter who they are or what your relationship with them is on other sites.

They are refering to internal AMA politics. For more of idea what they are refering to just read through the AMA threads.

Firstly posts in this forum should be about aeromodelling, which would include certain aspects of the working of the AMA.
Secondly the 10:1 rule in the Off Topic Discussion forum is actually the opposite of what easytiger said. For every 10 off topic posts made in the OTD forum a member must make 1 on-topic post in the modelling forums.

I stand corrected.
What do YOU think of the idea?

I think it's unecessary in this forum. The subject matter should be on-topic.
One of the main reasons for the forum being here is for discussion of the workings of the AMA within the hobby. Naturally this means discussion of the politics that are associated with that.
Many modellers do not want to have any involvement at all in the politics within the hobby and that is fine as well. Where some of the more political animals in any venture of this type do themselves no favours is in the eyes of the bulk of the membership who care little for political in-fighting. That means that they should exhibit constraint and post thoughtful, respectful responses to questions and debate.
It takes no time at all for a negative comment to generate a negative impression and mud-slinging nearly always results in the slinger getting splashed along with the slingee.
So long as the contributors to this forum conduct themselves in their posts within the forum posting guidelines then that is fine. If they don't then the appropriate action will be taken at that time.
