Hi guys. I live in Puerto Rico and am thinking of building one of these SPAD planes. I see mentioned 2 mil and 4 mil. I think only the 4 mil is avaiabe in our area. Would it make much difference if the entire plane were made of 4 mil material?
Another thing. I keep reading flashing before you glue. What and how is flashing done? And what is the best glue to use when building one of these planes?

Thanks for your help:confused:

2mm tends to be used only on the smallest planes. And even some of those (like the Gnat) are all 4mm. Spa3d's are all 4.

Also, remember that not al Cor is created equal. The "white" Coro is the strongest in any mil I've seen, although there is one run of black 3mm that seems to be made of iron. Most of the "red" I have seen is a little wimpy.

Also, remember that this is not paint by numbers - the ethos of SPAD is one of scrounging and experimentation.

Finally, I bet you can get harborsales.net to deliver to you...

4mm is fine to build the plane with 40 size in mind, remember crease flute were folding for fuse and leave some overlap to glue to.I us a small torch and just run it over the coro that needs to be glued, you will see the flash of the oil on coro, but do it quickly.I go over area to be glued with woodpecker then, whipe with alcohol and when glue with medium CA and apply in a dots spaced about 1/4 " apart and clamp up

My first SPAD was a Debonair built from all 5mm, it weight 7lb but a 46 hauled it round the sky no probs, the glide was steep if the engine stopped but it was tough as nails and got me through the real early learning stage.

4mm should be fine

I go over area to be glued with woodpecker No matter what glue you use definitaly do this, makes like small rivets where the holes are, I just use a glue called "welder" ,no flashing ,only woodpecker (or use a toothpick or awl), do a search on all this stuff at the SPADWORLD link off the SPAD site, I did this alot before buildng, it will help you out alot, with this glue I`ve never had a joint bust loose( and I`ve whacked them way too many times), and the 2 mil is mainly for wings and does help with wieght, check out Harbor Sales, they are great to work with, the 2mil is worth the wait ( only about a week here)
