Hello everybody,

recently I sent Dynaflite (AirSupport@hobbico.com) an e-mail requesting info on what/how/if they made any changes or improvements in their Bird Of Time ARF wings.

I got a first e-mail saying that things have improved and to look at their web pages.

Not satisfied I replied asking for some more precise info.

They replied shortly and I guess with a pre-formatted text (I have the impression that words are very expensive to them  ).

This is their mail:
The wing joiner box is being reinforced and some gussets are being added to
prevent the wing from fluttering.

I hope you find this information helpful. Should you have any further questions
or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at this email address.
(Please be sure to copy all previous emails into any future questions.) You can
also reach our product support technical team at 217-398-8970, or via fax at
217-398-7721.

DID YOU KNOW that our web pages now all contain FAQs? (Frequently asked
questions) Please drop by and take a look! We hope you'll find the information
helpful and valuable to you.

Sincerely,
David Wolf
Product Support Supervisor

Anyone of you, dear modelers, got some more info ?
Anyone opened one of these "new" wings ? Do they state the truth ? Have you seen the gussets ?

Thanks,
Emanuele

I canceled an earlier order from my LHS but based on the threads I read on beafing up the center section I just reorded the Plane. I couldn't resist. It's a great looking plane and the price makes it worth the time to add some modifications. I plan on taking the cover off the center section and adding Carbon fiber ribbon. It'll be interesting to see if any of the improvements Dynaflight mentioned are in the kit I receive. I may also glass a portion of the center section. As long as I'm at it I hope to add Spoilers using micro servos. It'll be an ARF that you have to rebuild but I think it will be worth it. The proof will be if it can take a moderate winch launch. Stay Tuned!

Thanks for the info, Emanuele. I've been throwing my BoT off the slope occasionally, but I'm hoping I'll eventually be able to exchange the wing for one that I can safely hi-start or winch launch. I'll be watching this thread.

A few weeks back I modified my ARF BOT by glassing forward of the spar and wrapping the glass to form shear webs, a little heavier than putting carbon in over the spar but cheaper. I have now flown three days with the plane and it can take both a heavy highstart (NSP Pinnacle) and moderate winching, no creaking at release so I'm noit even close to breaking the wing.

My repair added about 5-6 oz. to AUW but as I modified the tail (no servo in tail) I could take weight out of the nose. Knocked out the lead weight, ground a few oz's off and glued it back in.

I am starting to dial the plane in and yesterday morning I had a couple of4 minute flights fro the high start with no wind/lift. My best time yesterday afternoon was 13 minutes, not great but getting there.
