View Full Version : winch servo for Victoria and Fairwind?

Hello all,

I'm about to get a couple of sailboats - a Kyosho Fairwind 900, and a Thundertiger Victoria. The Manual for the Kyosho shows an install with either the Futaba S-25 (S-125 shown) or a Sanwa/Airtronics 94581. I don't know what is recommended in the Victoria.

I'm interested in using a GWS winch servo.

Does anyone know which model of the GWS sail servo would I need?

The GWS site lists 3 models: S125 1/2T S125 1T S125 6T

I believe that the T refers to how many turns the servo makes.

The GWS servos are drum servos, and from what I can tell, the Fairwind manual only shows the intall for arm servos. Would this be a problem? I don't suppos you can just put an arm on drum servo that only makes 1/2 a turn?

I really don't know anything about this, and would appreciate any recommendations or suggestions.

Thanks,

Robert

Robert

Robster,
I use Hitec servo's in my boats (Victoria's and more) and I'm sure the same HS-645MG servos or equivalent's would be fine in Fairwind's as well.

Not too familiar with GWS servo's so would suggest any servo that put's out 100+ oz torque on 4.8v power (or something like 150oz on 6 v). And I wouldn't suggest a drum servo (they're usually very slow on the take up) for boats that size. Check out all the Victoria construction tips at the Victoria Resource Center, I'm sure they'll help.

I don't think drums are class legal for Victoria's. Also it is good to learn how to alter the servo for 180 degree rotation. There is instructions on www.amya.org in the US1m building instructions page. It's burried in there somewhere.

This may not be class legal, but I use arm type arfrangements in my fairwind and Victoria, they work great on a 30-dollar hitec quarter-scale servo or retract servo. Plenty of power and very fast in and out.
