Hi folks,

I built a nice, higher performaning IC powered conard 10+ years ago using an eppler 197 on the aft wing and a eppler 214 on the fore wing. The combo came from an article in Model Avation back in the aerly eighties (dates me for sure), anyway, I'm looking to put some new airfoil on a EDF plane. My first thoughts were to look at Bert Ratan's airfoils but two things come to mind:

First, I'm sure the data will be hard to come by.
Second, I'm betting the scaling effect for a model would be bad.

Using Compufoil, I've been looking at many possible replacements and really havn't found "the one".

Anyone with thoughts on this would sure be welcome.

Bob.

The Rutan profiles are hard to find indeed. All I managed to find out is that he uses Roncz profiles. Knowing B Rutan's design skills these airfoils were probably specifically designed for use on his machines and therefore not of much use for us RC flyers. Although you never know until you try of course. ;)

Another Canard/Wing combo is the Eppler 197 and 193. Don't know which one goes where but I recall that I read it in a popular book on RC Airplane design by Andy Lennon. A guy in the netherlands designed a canard using these profiles and he was quite satisfied with it.

An option might be to plot the Cl-alpha curves in profili 2 to figure out if these profiles are better than what you're currently using.
