I fly slope planes, and while most of the time the battery in my plane lasts longer than I want to fly, I would like to be able to charge another one at the slope "just in case". They're just 4 cell, 270mah batteries. Will my hiTec 330 work ok if I just solder the right connector to the wires?

http://www.hitecrcd.com/Catalog/Chargers/cg330.html

The write up says it will do 4 cells..
Should work just fine.

Charging with this charger should be fine as long as you don't charge over the 4C rate (1 amp MAXIMUM) or at the 3C rate (which is better, at 0.8 amp). These charge rate are only for Ni-cads.
Now if you have NiMH batteries this is different, as you don't really want to charge at any higher than 1C (battery's capacity, which is lower than what Hitec 330 will charge at {I have this charger as well}). NiMH are also a pain in the A@$E to charge as well as they'll take about an hour to charge and you'll need to keep an eye on them as they charge.

Hope this helps

I know you weren't asking about chargers (and your Hitec 330 is a great charger), but for pure glider flying you can't beat the Sirius Charge Pro Series (http://www.siriuselectronics.com/). Sure it's expensive and not very versatile, but I love mine. Charges both tx and rx and is totally idiot proof. They also make some smaller ones that will only charge rx batteries. Makes for a very small package when fastened to a small gel cell or a larger 10-cell nicad pack. Perfect for hiking to the top of a slope.

Just a thought.
