Here's a few links to get you started. There are thousands of photos online of the Spit.

http://www.mypage.bluewin.ch/godi/Cats/spitfire/spitfire.htm
http://www.flyvintage.com/aircraft/27.shtml
http://dautremont.chez.tiscali.fr/Spit/Spitphotos.htm

Finally, if you go to www.aircraftresourcecenter.com and then click on "walkarounds" and then "propellor walkarounds" and then scroll down to the Spitfires. This site has lots of close up and detail photos of several different Spits. Good luck, Chad Veich.

Cool thanks,

I have found one that i think i may try and replicate, however looking for good photos for a complete walk around revealling the cammo pattern on all sides has been a challenge!

Its in the Seattle's Museum of Flight and its MK923.

So! Is there anyone out there that lives in Seattle that could nip into the Seattle's Museum of Flight and grab some pickies for me!!

I know this is asking a favour, but its a good excuse to get to a Aviation museum. I would go myself but it quite a bit more than a day trip from the UK!!!

Cheers

Brett

Brett, a friend of mine in the Seattle area recently sent me a CD with many, many photos of MK923. I may be able to get it copied for you. Drop me a note at cvnkv@aol.com to remind me and I will reply directly to your email. Regards, Chad Veich.

Brett, I just went through the pics on my CD and, while there are some great detail shots, there are not many showing the camo pattern of the airplane. I think the pictures linked to below have much better info on the camo pattern than what I have on my CD. If you run into any trouble spots send me an email and I will see if I have a photo to clarify.

Thanks

I have seen the first link, which is good,
but some of these are much clearer .Thanks.

However, the problem is all the clear shots i have seen have been taken of the right hand side, and horizontal.

I am really looking for the left side , and the top of the wings of the Z5-J spitfire.

Do you have this in the CD?

You can email me any images, as many as you like they will all go down well!!: ) brett@jugglermagician.co.uk

ps the Coming atcha photo is mad! isnt it!!

thanks

Brett

Duh just noticed the
http://www.angelfire.com/sd2/spitfirefactory/mk9234.jpg

is the left side and shows some of the wing. I thought it was a different spit cos in first glance its 5j-Z and not Z5-J !! DUh!

Anyway if there are still any top of wing shots that would still be good.

Cheers

Brett

I'll see what I have Brett. The problem is that the airplane is in a pretty poor spot for photography being right up against a huge window with lots of framing. Glaring light and shadows everywhere!(it doesn't help that the paint is very glossy) No problem for the up close detail shots but awful when my buddy pulled back to get overall pics. Anyway, I'll send you what I can in the next day or so. Stay tuned...

Hi Brett,
I think the colours you are looking for are the later war years standard RAF camouflage of Ocean Grey and Dark Green upper surfaces with Sea Grey Medium lower surfaces . I do not think you will find a scheme with duck egg blue. I use perfect paints as they have the colors ready mixed. Here is a link to their page which has the fs numbers for the paint too.

Good luck

Paul, if you look closely at MK923 the bottom surfaces definitely have a blue color to them. (not sure it's duck egg blue, but similar) I don't think it's historically accurate for the Spit but it looks nice.
