Is the Skyshark FW190 good or is there a better Dora out there for sport scale?
Any reviews from experienced pilots on the flight characteristics of the Skyshark FW190-d9? My only similar warbird experience is with a Top Flite P-51, so any direct comparison would be most helpful.
The company puts a lot of stock on the lightweight airframe, and I can see that would make a great difference in handling.

They are beautiful, and come out considerably lighter than the TF offerings, and fly better because of it.
More parts involved, lighter wood, more difficult to build.
The new TF Gold Edition warbirds(as opposed to the old Red Box stuff) are very nice, too, but I would MUCH rather save two pounds or so and do the Skyshark one.

You can see a build report on the Skyshark FW-190A in the Skyshark Kits forum at www.rcscalebuilder.com.

Thanks for the lead! Great article! Yeah, I gotta get one (a D-9), but it may be heretical as I intend a conversion to electric. Also I want to accurize the plane, drawing from experience of plastic scale modelers' efforts to accurize their 1/48 and 1/32 scale kits plus my own. I know there was an article in RCM about accurizing a TF '190 but I have yet to get the back issues. Looking at the pics from Skyshark's website I know the gun hood needs lots of work, and every kit manufacturer makes a grossly inaccurate radiator cowl. Add corrected landing gear, charger scoop, control surfaces, scale flying prop and flaps, I'll be busy this winter.

scififlyer, the RCM articles on modifying the TF 190D were written by Steve Curry who just happens to be a friend of mine. He has a web site with much information on his TF 190 as well as several others he has built or is building. Check it out, good stuff.

Sounds like a nice project. A friend of mine radically transformed an old Jemco one...scale surfaces and hinging, a few of the other details you are talking about, it really made a nice model. Go for it.
As far as the electric conversion, I think you are starting from the right place with the skyshark kit.
