im trying to decide wether to paint [water base polyurathane] or coat a wing similiar to art hobby wings [black popular veneer] and im wondering the pros and cons eg;

--is painting lighter?
--how do you keep the colors from bleeding into each other if i plan to paint both top and bottom at the same time to prevent warping?
--assuming i pick a very lite covering will it add much strength compared to painting?

-also would packing tape stick better to the covering for the control surfaces?

--if i were to use covering,could i at a later date remove the covering without leaving the covering adhesive stuck in the wood grain??

TIA viti

Water based clear polyurathane is the toughest, lightest finish that you can apply. Two thin coats are all you need on fine grained wood like black poplar. Wipe it on with a foam brush and put it on as thinnly as you can. All pigmented paints are heavier. Red Devil and some other brands make pigmented water based polyurathane varnishes. You can use them for trim colors but don't over do them. After the clear finish is done a color trim can be added. Vinyl electrical tape makes a good masking tape at the edges of the trim. If the tape is rubbed down the trim color won't bleed under.
