Which Norvels are the Revlite? AME or BigMig? Also, where is the cheapest place in the US to buy one?

Thanks

I think the Revlite versions are identifiable by their larger cyl. cooling fins....dunno, I'm not a Norvel expert. A good place to buy them is: http://www2.mailordercentral.com/quantummodels/ Not sure if they're the cheapest.

Both are classified as Revlite -- as Dickeybird said, all NORVELs with the larger black anodized cylinder are Revlite.

Quantum Models has the lowest retail price that I have found on web enabled vendors -- they are located in KY, so any KY resident will have to pay sales tax. The owners of Quantum were also the original owners of OmniModels, now a Tower partner.

You can also pick up NORVELs on eBay, however, I would buy only NIB engines. Due to the hard starting and breakin procedure, many probably get abused early, then sold off as problem engines. Interestingly, many smaller disp. NORVELs sell for over retail price, so shop carefully.

Andrew

Ok, ir I read correctly in another thread somewhere (forgot where though :(), all the new Norvels are revlites? You can't pick which one you want to buy now, right?

According to the NORVEL website, all the new engines, AME and Big Mig are Revlites. However, you can still find the older engines in NIB condition on eBay.

The revlites have the Big round Cooling fins the older nonrevlite engines have the small squarish looking cooling fins. I prefer the revlites myself.

The AP wasp .061 is made by Norvel for AP.

Quite interesting. I can get 2K more rpm out of the AP than my Norvel. And it idles good too. Don't get me wrong I have the Norvel in the new plane and it runs great but if I were to race I would go with the AP.
