Hi all, I'm going to be building my first float plane! It will be the awesome A6M2 Rufe! Now being that I'm new to this type of flying I would really appreciate all the help I can get. Don't be shy about putting in your 2 cents, it just might save me from disaster!:D I still am trying to finish my current project (I'm in the final painting phase) but as soon as the bench is cleared I'll start cutting and gluing with the total enthusiasm and utter blindness of a rank beginner!:D My site will only be as in depth and detailed as is the interest others show in the project, if no ones interested then it wouldn't make any sense to invest a lot of time in a web site showing every detail of construction.

For now I'll just direct you to the site, so you can look at the specs and see some pictures of the plan, when I start construction I will post updates here.

YES! Very interesting! Scratch-building is great. It takes a lot of time but when it is finished it is YOUR aircraft, not someones kit.

Do you plan to fly it next season?

And remember to post often and with lots of pictures! ;)

Luke,
I just picked up a Red Box Top Flite A6M2 and would like to figure out a way to make mine like yours. What an awesome looking plane. Do you have a a copy of the plans for sale?

Luke,

I have a Rufe, 60-size Royal Models kit with float added, flown adequately with a .90...good fix for the muffler is a custom one that fits inside the cowl.

The one I have was built by an awesome guy - the model came in at 7.25 pounds. Yes, with the .90 and a 13x5 prop, it was quite responsive to the throttle.

I saw 'way,' as I bent the float; converted it to wheels; broke the wing. Have a new wing and float but switched to electrics and probably will never complete the rebuild.

Available to USA water flyers for shipping + $50- US

I would really like to see the build thread if it still existed. Anybody have pictures and a "how to"?
