Hi. I have a couple of Cox engines, and am itching for a new 1/2A plane. I've got a Black Widow in great shape, and a barely broken in Killer Bee .051 and a 1 ounce tank for it.

I'm looking for a plane that'll get in and out a a small runway (about 300' by 25') and can use standard servos. I don't need something insanely aerobatic, but not looking for a trainer either, something kinda sporty. If I could get my hands on an old Global Baby Birdie kit, that would be excellent! I doubt that I can find one, so something similar would do. I can pick up a set of smaller servos if necessary.

Thanks in advance,
Keith

I was actually leaning towards that one already. Is there anywhere I can see pictures of one built, other than Tower Hobbies website? If I do build one, It'll probably be without the landing gear. I fly from grass, and that single wheel just doesn't appeal to me much anyway...

Thanks,
Keith

Besides the Stealth Sport, I was also considering the Lanier Dominator 200 kit (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNS17&P=7).

Have any of you built or flown one of these?

Keith,

You have two very good Cox engines on your hands as long as the Killer Bee is the good first series with the good crank, piston and cylinder. If it is mount the Black Widow's tank onto it and you will have a very HOT Cox reed valve engine. It should pull 20,000 with a good prop. This would for the most part make a Cox Venom clone! Mount it on a Sport Shealth and have a ball!

Tim

Tim, last night I took the back plate off and checked, it's got the new round crank. :(

It's got the new metal reed, but this is all in the gold crankcase. I guess it was one that was built during the transition from the old to new ones...

I thought the large opening in the Killer Bee's backplate was part of it's design that gives it more power.

The tank on my BW has the screen removed though. It was like that when I got it used. It's got the old metal backplate too, I think they stopped making those in the early '80s.

How about a sig hummer?

I'm kinda waiting for someone to report on converting a mountain models kit, that might be pretty interesting too...

Wow, I hadn't heard of the Sig Hummer before. I went to Sig's website, and looked it up. I think that's definately what I've been looking for. Thanks.

On another note, I have a Mountain Models MiniFlash, with the 3D and Speed wings. I've though about converting it a few times, but can't bring myself to do it. I like it as an electric too much. It would be a very easy conversion though...

Ok, got another question. Where besides Sig can I get the kit? I need a few other items as well, so I hoped to be able to get it from somewhere like Tower that would have it all. I looked a bit, but can't find it. on any of the usual dealers I buy from.

Edit: I see it a Sheldons Hobbies for $31.95, has anyone bought from them before? How fast are they at getting your order out?

Quantum Models has it listed for 29.99 -- Quantum is owned by the couple that started Omni Models.

I have had excellent service from Quantum -- the only downside is that I have to pay the 6% KY sales tax which makes their competitive pricing a little higher. Quantum also has the lowest price on NORVELs that I have seen on the web. They have maintained the original pricing structure that was effective before SIG picked up NORVEL and raised prices.

I have no experience with Sheldons, but some threads in other groups have not been very complimentary.

Cool. They also have alot more of the other stuff I need. I might be able to get it all in one order, and save money too. :)

Thanks!

Keith,
I order a lot from Quantum Models. I can usually get my order in two days. I just ordered a Tequila Sunrise and a Norvel Big Mig .25 in the past week.
The Hummer will be a hot airplane. I love the looks of it.
Sureflite.com has a 1/2 A Cub (foam) that should be a good flyer with a .049

OK, I'm doing elec now and I just recieved a TeeDee .09 and a TeeDee .049. I have ordered the Stealth Sport. Here's my Q ............... You just fly these engines wide open till the fuel runs dry? Yea. I laughed too at my Q LOL

So ....... Do you?

If the engine has no throttle, we fly it until it's out of fuel in the "ideal" situation.

How do you throttle a non carbed engine? I have not seen a throttled .049. Lead me to a place where I can learn.
