Need some good hi start rubber, line and chute to launch my 20 year old Mirage (RES) and still flying great. The older hi start rubber was less traumatic on the airframe than the newer rubber (which i have).
any suggestions for a source???

If by "older hi start rubber" you mean the amber colored surgical tubing - I saw some at ACE hardware, about a dollar a foot though.

The Mirage weighs less than some 2-meter planes and has a much lighter wing loading. The histarts that are rated for current 2-meter planes will be quite strong enough to launch the Mirage and not so powerful as to endanger its wing. The longest lasting and most energy efficient rubber is mandrel formed rather than extruded. It is UV protected to last about 4 times longer than tan surgical tubing. See:

Hi Bob,
Check out www.reefscuba.com
I am one of those do-it-yourselfers (read "tight with money"), didn't want to spend money on pre made Hi-start. I did a search here on Hi-starts and found Reef Scuba mentioned in several threads. I bought a dog stake from PetSmart or Pet Co for $3.00 and ordered tube online from Reef Scuba (20 feet of 3/16 for $10.00). They have surgical tubes in various ID/OD's, amber or black, and their prices are affordable too. When you order make sure you state in comment section that the tube will be used for Hi-start. You'll be pleasantly surprised when you open the package and find they have included, free of charge, 3 rings and zip ties. Very happy with their customer service and timely delivery.
Rizvi.
