Has anyone created a lamite using corroplast/correx, to create something halfway between crunchie and foamie.

I want to make a light tailplane, but i want to cover it ultimatey with correx. Using outer skin laminate to take away the heat used in covering and hide the fluted suface finish.

I have tried i thin ply laminate with correx centre. This was excellent but too heavy by far.

I then tried using thin balsa and 2mm correx but the balsa would just crack of chip off or flexed if it took an impact.

Anyone else got any suggestions or have tried anything else?

Why?????

coro is fuel proof, reasonably strong, pliable, Very crash resistant, etc.

what are you trying to achieve????
shape? strength? light?

Mainly to get crashproof, but at the same time loose the flute effect on the surface and also make the correx coverable.

At the moment correx will tend to melt or warp if you try to apply an iron on covering, and then if you do get it on you are still left with the flute lines. At the same time if i come up with something a bit more rigid then the model should fly better.

Fuel proofing aint a problem

OK 1st of all hello and all good questions. SPADS are some of the most if not the most crash resistent planes alive. To lose the flute look is a good question, one I havent thought about much. Covering with vinyl don't do that. As far as rigidity, we add bamboo skewers in strategic flutes, use extra chordwise long control horns for flying surfaces and such for stiffening. As to your comment about flying better- perhaps, and that depends on your flying ability, the spad design you have and color of coro, temp outside lol etc etc. For the most part, however they fly beautifully.
