View Full Version : Put a foot on your step?

Have read in a couple of places that it helps to put a "foot" at the end of the step to help in ROW. I think they suggested about a 1/8" by the width of the float , glued on before finishing. My Adventura has a foot, but at the end of the float section, not at the step. Am putting foots (?) on the floats for my Slow Stick. Any comments would be appreciated.

It sounds like you are talking about what the boat guys call ride pads.
They are little extra parts that help get the float just a bit higher out of the water and give the step a nice crisp edge so the water rolls off rather than sticking and creating suction.
They do work, and well, but a good crisp square edge at the step will do 90% of the same thing.
For most models they are not needed. on an underpowered or heavy model they might help a bit.

Based on my experience with Slow Stick you really don’t need to do anything special to the floats to get the SS to easily ROW. I think it’s the lifting power of the SS that makes it so easy to ROW. The only precaution I’ve taking is to keep the step sharp on my foam floats by gluing a piece of 1/32” ply to the back of the step.
