Slip Rings

Hey Guys and Girls,
I need help with a design for slip rings small that will handle
between 12 an 20 amps. I have experimented with carbon brushes and brass rings but need something better any info?

Better in what way? Lower voltage drop? Less wear? Or what?

The slip rings I have designed don't pass current well and tend to heat. I have thought about cannibalizing speed 400 motors for the commutators and rewiring them but shaft size is a problem. I need at least a 3/8" shaft size.
