View Full Version : wing beds as wings for spad?

Ok, so I'm looking at the beds that some of my wings have come out of and thinking that I can make a plane with them. Some are flat (like the bottom of the bed for my colibri and bobolink) others would make an undercambered (sp?) wing.

Anyone ever done this before?

I was thinking of using a wrapping paper tube for a fuse, but then I say a guy using one of those plastic baseball bats for a fuse while testing a new wing design.

Jim,
Now that you mention it, they would be great for molding two-ply balsa under cambered wing. Epoxy two thin sheets of balsa together and put some sandbags or shotbags on top to press the sheets together, no ribs needed.

OR

Glass the inside of the foam mold, then cut off the excess foam and glass the other side. Under cambered foam core glass wing panel.

OR

Put some waxpaper in the foam mold , then lay up a glass under cambered wing with say a 1/8 inch foam or 1/16 inch balsa core.

May try that sometime. I save foam also.
Regards,
Paul

Jim, I honestly don't think this has been done, and I think it's a great idea for you to test out on SPADS!. I assume you mean the "husks" your wings came in. I cut my own, but I sure would like to see your work if you try it.!!

BTW the plastic bats are used for many spads now, even for combat ! Give it all a try and post your results!

I've seen the bats used to test wing designs by a friend of mine. I've been way busy lately building other things. Right now, I need a round fuse to replace a 1/4 inch spruce stick on an electric plane called the Wind Buster. Any ideas. Obviously it needs to be light, hold an Astro 010 Brushless motor and all the fixings.
