I think the Tidewater Model Soaring Society is one of the biggest soaring club in the area. See:

TMSS is just south and east of you in Glen Allen. We fly at Isle of Wight County Fairgrounds between Windsor (on rte 460) and Smithfield (rte 258). Some of our members are also part of the Mid-Atlantic RC, a powered club, and fly sailplanes/electric sailplanes with us. BRASS is near Waynesboro, west of you. You would be welcome to come down and fly with us as we are usually out every Saturday, except hurricanes, throughout the year.
