I have the "normal" sized Spring Air retracts for a 16 pound electric Cherokee with a 110" wingspan. I think the wire size is 5/32" and the package said up to 10 pounds. I plan to only flying the plane off a paved runway and I don't usualy land off in the grass. In fact, If I do any one flight operation best, it's land smoothly.

Do you think that it's "resonable" for this LG to hold up or should I just cut them off with a tourch now?

I tried a set of Spring Airs #103hd, I think, designed for a 14 lb airplane with with 3/16 wire on a 22lb P-38. they seemed ok at first but the wire would bend when just taxiing. I never tried to fly with them due the loads a real landing would have put on it. The units seemed ok, but the wire bends easy.

Is there an off the shelf replacement wire that would work better? I think that the mechanism can take the loads and they are mounted as if it was a tank.
