After number of years in the hobby, I finally decided to build two of my favorite warbirds, those being FW190 and the Spitfire. As such, I could use some advise in choosing the best kits available for each of those planes. I’m looking for kits, which are very accurate, are good fliers and are complete as far as having all the components available to complete them. I would like to build these in either 1/5th or 1/6th scale. Last time I looked few years ago, Dave Platt, Innovative Models and Yellow Aircraft had full kits available and all the additional components required to complete them. Are these kits still available and are they still the best options available for building these kits? Although I’m leaning towards Spitfire Mk IX and FW 190A, if there is a fantastic kit available for either a long nose version of the FW or some other version of the Spitfire, I would definitely consider them. Thank you in advance for all, and any, suggestions in helping me choose the best kits.
Cheers,
Val

Welcome Val,
I would go for a Brian Taylor spitfire,
http://www.bhplans.com/bt1.htm you can get plans, a short kit or even a beautiful fiberglass package from one of our forum users here. http://www.vicrc.com/glassparts.htm
Yellow Aircraft also make a beautiful MkXIV that is very complete, glass fuse and preskinned wings etc. http://www.yellowaircraft.com/prop/spitfire/spitfire.htm Initial expenditure and personal preference will determine your route on all these planes.
I have never built an FW190 except an old gp arf but if I were going to do one now I would probably lean towards a Vailly Aviation kit. http://www.vaillyaviation.com/Intro.html
sorry for the short answer but I am a little busy right now, I am sure the other guys will give their opinions.
Good Luck
Paul

by the way check out the thread in this forum titled another spit fan http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=142904

IMP has a nice 190D9 if you can find them. They usually come as a complete kit with retracts , aluminum spinner , cockpit kit etc. Its a good size kit and flys like a pattern plane. IMP is still around and mine came out beautifully.

Hi Val,

I'm not sure where you live, but you can look here too if you're from Europe for the Brian Taylor Spitfire http://www.t-birds.be and http://www.t-birds.be/products

Thanks

I would go for the 83 inch Brian Taylor Spitfire and the 80 inch Holman Focke Wulf. Holman has kits for both the short and long nosed 190s. Take a trip to www.rcscalebuilder.com to find out lots more about all of these birds. Also, visit the web site of Jose Guitterez: http://mywebpage.netscape.com/warbirdscale/

Chad, I was going to advise on Taylor's SPit and Holman's'190 but you beat me!
Definetly the fastest way to get into the bigger warbird.
Val, also check vicrc.com

IMP is currently available at www.impscale.com. I have the 65" FW190A, one of the best flying warbirds I have owned.

The BT Spit gets my vote for scale outline. But another option maybe the Aviation Design Mk IX 1/5.5 scale version a bit less work to build - http://www.adjets.com
