I've read about taping or using Monokote trim to cover those "cardboard" edges, but they don't seem to accept paint well.
Any suggestions??
I was considering putting small pieces of balsa in each pipe at the egde and then sand down. Is this possible?? or is it a weight factor??

plastic panel edging works great, and so do plastick colored note book binders...adds a nice trim touch.

Why get rid of the "cardboard" edges....they make for great saw action in combat.
I use vinyl sheet, (thin, light & strong)
ALWAYS have it lying around from doing lettering and such

Not for combat.
Wanted a stand-off scale look for a warbird - either a P-38 Lightning or a Corsair. I think the notebook binders that TLAR mentioned may work.
Thanks for the responses.
Would my balsa idea work??

I think the balsa idea would work awesome...however, there is one thing to keep in mind. The lighter colors of Coroplast (yellow especially) are ever so slightly see through (translucent), especially at the field in the sun...and anything in the flutes, especially if internally uneven, may look worse than just leaving the edges open. If you are planning to paint over it though, this wouldn't be an issue.

Sign vinal is good stuff, and I also use hot glue or goop. The hot glue is nice, you can mold it as it cools to a specific shape.

Drinking straws also work if gooped onto the edges. Another thing we do is take a pc of 4 mil. and cut one flute off. The "T" shape is what you're looking for. Either shave the long part of the T off or cut a slit down the exposed edges and goop this on. Other ideas abound. The balsa idea would be fine, but more work then some of these ideas. Some people have also just used goop alone on the edges but whatever works for you. Do some tests on some scrap-youll find whats worth it or not on your own believe me!
I almost forgot another way. If it's a straight edge and its a full flute. Here's the flute end --> [_] with the exposed forward edge slit on the center of the flute. Now press those two parts together like this and tape or cover it with vinyl [side view now] [> <----------this it looking down the top of the flute.
Hope some of these help. Use your imagination, thats the key to SPAD, do it however you want!

He's referring to the Coro flute openings being visible like on cardboard.
