Duane,
Old post but maybe you can help. I will be visiting Arlington TX this weekend and would like to take Neice and nephew flying with small electric/parkflyer. Might be able to do indoor.

bad weekend for anything going on around here for indoor :( ..lots of folks traveling to Big Spring for big-time indoor event...bad timing i am afraid..:) how about going to one of the local fields on Saturday and watching..the field in Benbrook almost always has a big crowd of people flying on weekends..lots of small nitro planes and usually some park flyer electrics...and a lot of times really big 40% size gassers as well...
the club name is Fort Worth Thunderbirds and here is a link to the club website with maps and pictures etc... www.fwthunderbirds.org
hope you have a fun weekend visiting the Metroplex area with your family! :)

Duane, is that Rookie racing a "one design" event? If so, where do you get the plane?

Do you think the weather will be good enough for you guys this weekend. Looks like rain and wind. If you are running I may want to stop down and visit. Your field is very close to my Sister's house.

Duane, if Sunday weather is clear, I will definately call you.
BigBird, Sorry to hear your fun fly had to be cancelled but I do see rain in the forecast for Sat and Sun.
I am going to try and fly my light weight carbon Kestrel and my discus launched glider, the Boomer, in a schoolyard on Friday. Winds shoudl be around 10-12 which is really to much for these planes, but I am determined to do a demo for my Sister's family.
We will hope for a change in the forecast.

2dogrc, I work during the week 9-6 so I have not been able to make the indoor flying. One of these days, I will get a day off, and check it out. That place looks big in the pictures. I see you are facing the same problem, missing Sunday Combat due to working weekends. Why must work always interfere with our flying schedules?
Duane, that "rookie racer" is not a plane that I have seen localy. Where do you get one to join in the fun.

B&H hobbies made them here locally, but lately production seems to have dried up. We just scratch build our own now.

That's the only Byrd I don't think I know. They were a part of Seven Towers R/C Club long before I was! Find a Rookie and come race, the participation is getting low...

Hi Duane,
The Elzie Odom Recreation Center on Green Oaks Blvd. just East of Collins is available for indoor electric flyers on Tuesdays from 10am to 5pm. The facility is an indoor roller blade hockey arena - a very nice place to fly. There is a $6 flying fee. Light indoor electrics. I don't know what the availability will be when school in out for the summer.

How much do the kits run, and how often do you race?
Are plans available for someone to scratchbuild their own?

Duane,
The Lockheed Martin Aeromodelers are having one of their monthly indoor flying sessions Sunday April 16, 2006 at the basketball gym at the Lockheed Martin Recreational Association Facility on Bryant Irvin north of 20. Link to more info here:

ronin8451 also runs an indoor flying group in Weatherford that flys most Saturday nights so you might PM him.
See you there.

Hey Richard, what's up? I don't know if I can make Easter Sunday, and the next day I'm moving into my new house, so it's going to be a busy weekend.

Duane,
I know what you are in for and you will not have time for flying. I've done 8 moves since '96 and they were all painful in terms of losing track of stuff and just getting worn out carrying boxes. There are boxes I still haven't opened yet from three years ago.
We fly at LMRA monthly so there will be plenty of other opportunities either with us or with ronin8451 and birdie out in Weatherford on Saturday nights. Keep an eye out for our posts here in Electric Flight Events.

I am going to be visiting Arlington again this March 23-25. Anyone flying? Care for a visitor or two carrying AMA cards?
