license?

Maybe someone on the list is with a manufacturer....My question is all these companies that are making scale kits or ARF's, do they need a license agreement or do they pay to use the name of the planes in any way? For example, all of the Cessna 182 kits...are the model manufactureres paying a fee to Cessna? or do they need permission from Cessna?
