A company by the name of "Ram" makes some
I believe "Robbe" make some also.

Some of the best ones I have heard come fro the model train industry. However they run about $150 U.S. and up.
There are a couple of companies that make desiel sound chips for trains, but the only one I can think of off hand is "Pheonix".

It is also a good Idea to listen to some of the different engines available as not all desiel engines sound the same.

I pulled a sound bit off of the cd for "microsoft train simulator". However I haven't decided on how to play it in the boat just yet.

I have previously used a 30second voice recorder and recorded the
sound bytes I wanted off the web( ships horn ).The one I prevoiously
used seems to be not made any more so I have bought in a couple of 20
sec voice recorders and had them made up.
for the ships engine I have had an electronic diesel sound generator
made up on which I can alter the volume and the engine speed with a
potentiometer.
With the speed on full Its sounds like a genuine diesel engine
hammering along and for my container ship I just have the revs
constant as for a variable pitch prop.
If you need a little more infom Email me

The more info you can post on line will I'm sure help out a lot of us.

I have an old diagram for a diesel sub that is supposed to have several other
sounds on it. I haven't made it yet.

No diagram is really needed if you use the "20 sec Memo Recorders".
You can buy 20 second digital voice recorders at your local radio shack.
You can then just push the button, and record your sound.

Then you just have to get a servo to activate the the "play" button. The sound recorders are typically not very lound.

If you record several sounds on the device, it will play each sound in sequence each time you push the play button.

However, you typically have to push a "reset" button to return to the beginning. So if you don't have a channel expander, each device can use up a full channel.

go to the Hobby Lobby website - and look for the Graupner Navy Sound Module...
it is the best one you can get
