Come to the show.
South Western Aeromodeling Conference (SWAC)
Arlington TX, Convention Center Oct 3-4, '03
Great Show especially the Indoor electric Flying, swap shop, and displays.
AMA VP Dr. Sandy Frank was asked to allow some time for the candidates for the VP position to answer some questions and make some statements.
So far Dr. Frank has not answered that request made some time ago.
However I am betting that the candidates will be available for you to meet and question.

The following note was sent to Dr. frank, Tues 10/23, PM:

Dr. Frank:
This request follows one made sometime in late July. I did not receive any answer.
Since I was gone for most of Aug. any email answer may have been rejected as I did block all email for that period, therefore I make this repeat inquiry.
Will your programs at SWRA include any time for Candidates for AMA VP D-VIII to address the members present for debate, answering questions or whatever?
I will be there.

The SWAC is being persented strictly as a General Aeromodeling
publicity and promotional, FUN event, for ALL
aeromodelers and will not be used as a promotional platform for ANY political candidate for ANY office. That includes you,
me, the other candidate on the AMA ballot or anyone else. Political campainging, distribution, or any display of any political
literature, signs, or other materials by ANYONE will not be permitted at or during the event on the convention center grounds.
It is simply NOT that sort of venue.
Dr. Frank
Seems that all that work went down the tube, there Ol Hoss. Can't campaign at SWAC. Awwwww shucks.

Bob,
Just out of curiosity. How does a 3rd party be privy to emails between Horrace and Sandy. Is there some mailing list I should be subscribed to?

Not a problem. Bob is OK with this. I made it public.
Bob just needed to throw another spear. Hey, That is politics and he is backing his Buddy. Natural order of things, you know -- family first.
BTW, Bob, as I have said before, there is always a detour available around most road blocks. The fat woman is yet to sing.
Cheers:

If someone is going to cut and paste posts by other people from other forums they should cut and paste the Whole post and note that they have done so. But that is just my opinion.
This district 8 election stuff is getting quite interesting even if only for the entertainment value. I wish everyone the best of luck.

There you have it:
I wonder about:
Reschedule of the show until this time period! I have previously stated that
it may well have been for Vendor effect and other factors for better
attendance.
However now that Dr. Frank, as the incumbent Dist. VIII AMA VP, has the show
during the election time, yet refuses to allow any political campaigning,
creates a question in my mind of just what is Dr. Frank afraid of?
IMO Dr. Frank is closing the door to Dist VIII member input to himself, the
AMA via his Executive Council position, and for the membership, especially
newer members, to obtain information concerning the AMA's basic operations
systems.
This is a sad day for the democratic processes.

Don't argue with the road-signs. We all will get to the same end-of-the-road.
The trip is far shorter than one expects. HC.

This is the kind of nonsense that gives the AMA a bad name.

I whole heartedly agree with you.
Politics can be such a dirty word at times.
The district 8 election is a very heated one with many opinions with each candidate trying to get one up on the next. There is even a write in candidate. Most districts are lucky to find anyone at all to run against their present VP.
It is sad that it will effect things such as SWAC. But politics will be what politics are. I'm quite sure it will be a popular topic of discussion at the show for those who even bother to follow the election in that district. The majority of AMA member don't even bother to vote. Where else is someone during an election going to find so many voters in their district all in one place.
My hope is that some lessons get learned during all of this, no feelings get hurt to bad and after all the politics are over everyone can shake hands and get back to working on making the AMA a better organization.
