Hi
Im using an Irvine 36H MKII with an enya #3 (which i notice isnt in the
recomended list in the manual) in a shuttle which looses power in flight.
After a search on google groups archive iv come to the conclusion I need
more oil in the model technics durglow I have at the moment.
EDL was mentioned. Im wondering is this a standart type of oil? Or would I
need to purchase model technics EDL motor oil? I ask because it is very
expensive. I know good synthetic oil is expensive, im jsut wondering - if it
is a standard oil - if you paying a premium price for model technics branded
EDL, and if it can be got elsewhere at a more reasonable price.

EDL is synthetic oil which for use in helicopters is what you want.Duraglo
fuel uses a mix of 9% synthetic and 6% castor. Can i suggest you change your
fuel to something like Coolpower or Wildcat with a Nitro content of 15%,
both of which are specifically designed for use in heli`s and use 100%
synthetic oil which is better for your engine as it helps it to run cooler.I
am sure you will notice the difference and for what little extra it costs is
well worth it.With an added bonus burn`t Wildcat smells great, if you like
that sort of thing.Incidently Enya #3 is one of the best plugs I have ever
used.Hope this is of some help.

I have about 2 1/2 letres left of duraglo. Is there something I can add to
it to make it safe for my heli, besides going out and purchasing expensive
EDL motor oil which I wont use for anything else.

Castor.
It int that cstor is UNSAFE for helis, its just messy. In a 2 stroke then
castor works well. For the sake of 2.5l though, hmm...start a bonfire?

Personally I would use the fuel as it is, and save yourself some money. If it
is losing power in flight maybe you have set the mixture too lean. Make the
mixture richer (main needle anti clockwise about 1/8 at a time) and see if you
see an improvement.
And it will use it up quicker as well :-)

If all you're going to run through the engine is 2-1/2 litres, just run it
"as is".
Buy the next gallon of fuel with the right amount of EDL in when you next
splash out.

From what I understand castor is a very good lubricant and prevents rust and
corrosion, except its very dirty in a few ways. Will using an all castor
fuel like the modeltechnics GN range make me penny and pound wise? My
student budget doesn't allow for such a lavish lifestyle :-p

I will add that EDL is unheard of (in that name) in the colonies. Klotz is
king in the Ustados Unitos. It is what is in WildCat.

Sorry had to chip in here - EDL "Extreme Duty Lubricant" developed by
Model Technics from scratch in the early 80's and continually developed
since then. It's made especially for us, hence it's not available
anywhere else.
It's not an of the shelf oil that we just happen to use
