Our San Jose location was very very cool sunday!
There was about 7 or 8 of us there!
Many 1:8 scales and a number of 1:5 scales.
Oh, and welcome Ean! (hope I spelled your name correctly)
We missed John's presance also and THANKS FOR LETTING ME USE YOUR 3300's for the weekend!
We hope more can come out and say hello and race around.
The track was nice and big...technical also. It was a great day weather wise.

Hi Kevin,
I'm also a member of a forum called - www.rctech.net - i started a thread on 1/5th scale bikes, it's in the - Australian Racing- forum near the bottom of the forums page, once your in you might have to look for it on page 2 or 3...! The funny thing is, this site has exactly the same layout!!!
The forum is mainly all car related :( but drop a line or two to help support the bikes in OZ... :D
Maybe put that group pic of you guys in the carpack at San Jose?... only if your cool with that...
Thanks Kev...

Hey All,
Just found out why my steering on the HOR binds as soon as I put on the rider. Turns out the servo horn is slipping on the metal gear of the servo. The horn is not stripped; it's just too flimsy to withstand the speed of my servo (Hitec HS-81MG) and added pressure of moving the rider.
So, I changed the servo gears to plastic, shoo gooed the horn on, and turned down the speed of the servo -25% on my transmitter. I'll try and install the thing when it dries.
Also Kev if you want the HOR plated frame set it's on Tower. I'd get it for your static model, but for your running model the chrome coating makes the frame more brittle than stock (from personal experience). Stick to stock.

It will be nice to post some pics of ACTUAL racing here in the USA!!!
We will take pics NEXT time..as for this last time..I forgot my camera. (last sunday) We actually raced around for a bit. The track was a bit big...but it was ok to race around once you knew the "way" of the track.
I will try to come up with some more "visable" lining for the "portable" track
ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS????
I have thought of OLD garden hoses???? That should be easy enough to find right??? We have very nice flexable VISABLE DOTS that are almost "jumpable" WITHOUT crashing..(thanks KEN!)
I wish I have taken pics....it was good support. We are starting to meet Bi-weekly...every other SUNDAY
Hope more of the guys can chime in!
The 1/8 scales are pretty darn popular also...I just bought one. I thought that the 1/5 scale bikes would be more but there were multiple bikes owned each person.
we need a USA distributer for the Kyosho bike..rather than always buying fro Hong Kong. I love my hopups to my Kyosho Hang On Rider.
BUt my 1:5 bike ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!! Brushless and all...carbon fibre to come!!! (with help from Brian!!)

Thanks for posting a pic if Sunday at San Jose. The video of Sam's 1:8 Kyosho should be cool..do you know how to post it?
It will be great when Sam finds the perfect mix in his exhaust to get his optimum RPM out of that tiny glow motor...what engineer Sam is!
That pic is of Ken and myself racing our 2 brushless 1:5 scales. Ken's bike is quite a bit lighter and you can tell "out of the hole" when he takes off.......Carbon fiber to come for me!
First off...I may need a front brake first..its hard to get this thing stopped from a 3 second squeeze of the trigger.
OH, and YES, posting pics on here is a cinch!! Just as long as its not too HUGE.

Just a pic of a track near me, i was told they used to race 1/8scale bikes there a few years ago... This track is awesome to run on, the section of track just in front of the pic goes down about a 3foot graident into a hairpin then back up hill into a series of corners... The camber is perfect for the bikes with a very fast back straight, the back straight is about 20-30meters long not including the sweeper at the front of the pic... They run 1/10 - 1/5scale cars here and maybe one day 1/5scale bikes!... So if your ever in Qld, Australia... :p

scaulfi
Sep 18, 2003, 10:49 AM
Hey Kev, check out my seat/tank on my bike, i made it myself with a homemade vac form machine!... :D
I made up some molds of the TT body and did a bit of reshaping on the tail... :)
The front fairing is a bit harder to do though... the front fairing in that pic of my bike is the TT one though! -shaun-
Kev71H
Sep 18, 2003, 11:18 AM
where is the picture?
Ahhh..I see. (needed to go back a page) cool...nice job!
I wish I had a vacume machine for my own molds. Going to have to look online one of these days to see how to make one.
Was it hard to make?
scaulfi
Sep 18, 2003, 12:01 PM
You need a vacume cleaner, griller element and box metal frame to set it all up in...
The griller goes to the top of the frame and then at the bottom of the frame you need to make a sealed flat bed box with a metal top and lots of little holes in it (like mesh.) and then you can attach a vac motor to the under side of the flat bed box or you can just make a connection for your vacume cleaner hose...
What you need to do now is make another frame that can slide up and down inside the main box frame, that's what you attach your lexan sheet to... once you've made the unit you need to make some molds of your fairing out of plaster ...
To make the hole thing work you've got to heat up the lexan enough that it sags under the grill element and then when it's soft enough you quickly drop the sliding frame down onto your molds then turn on the vac and the vac sucks the lexan down over your molds... Hey presto, homemade lexan body's
If you do give it a go let me know and i'll let you know more!... :D

Hi Kev,
The bike was all cut out by hand using a jig saw, drilled and filed bto the final shape. I didn't have my mill when I started, but I have one now!:D
Edge pice was drawn 1:1 in cad and a paper template with centres etc marked out. I used spray on glue to hold the templae to the aluminium sheet, then cut away. (Only trick is, not to get the aluminium to hot while cutting, the glue will start to let go, and the template will move)
Here's a pic with the pipe sitting in position.

p.s...any of us motorcyce guys have a shock that I could buy from them for my stearing damper??????
The one I have on there now is "not adjustable" to the point that I CAN'T EVEN OPEN IT!!!! The thing does not open at all. The shock oil is way too thin.
The shock is a bit big compared to some of the normal shocks that people use..it was off my 1:8 buggy.
I thought maybe that if someone used one shock they would have another to sell.....I don't have any and someone gave me this shock that was not adjustable...(thanks for it Rodney!!) It just needs to have the oil changed..but it can't be opened. :D :D

Hi Kev or anyone, just thought i'd put up this pic of the fairing/seat and tank for you to check out!... In a post on the page before this one (pg 5 i think!) i explaned a little about the prosses of making a vac former to make your own lexan bodies! :D
The front fairing was a little harder to do but it does the job, the seat and tank was alot easyer to do!... It's cause of the hight of the molds that makes it harder.... :)

Ducked out on the original plan of making the bodywork for the time being ... so there's a bought one hopefully one on it's way here soon. But would love to have a play with it once I get the bike running.
scaulfi
Sep 19, 2003, 10:44 AM
I'm glad you like it!... When i make the fairings they don't always come out the way you'd like, sometimes the lexan is thicker on the under side and the sides get streched to thin!... I still need to find the right type of lexan to use, at the moment i'm using 1mm thick poly carb but it needs to get really soft before you can vac it and it blisters the plastic, 0.5mm is to flimsy but works great, so i might try some 0.8mm and see how that goes!!!

I finally found you guys !!! So here is the place RC bikers will be? Nice picīs scaulfi of your nitro project!
I had recently recived my OS CV 15 R-x today and will give this beast a proper run in tomorrow. It claims in the manual that the engine has 1.2 hp and a tremendous low end torque. Maybe longer wheelies will be next trick at the circuit.

Not too bad of a site on the other site. This is a nice place to go because it has it own description. The other site seems to have the bikes in the "other" section wich includes a very wide variety of things.

Kev71H
Sep 20, 2003, 10:44 AM
great! A new video would be great. What is your bike consisting of to accomplish the wheelies?? It looks like many parts on your bike are a bit stock..but the obvious ones are not. What does it take to accomplish a wheelie without having a FULL MODDED bike?
yngwie
Sep 20, 2003, 01:44 PM
The main thing you have to do to a stock bike is shorten the wheelbase by cut one link of chain and mill/file up the slot in rear swingarm so the hubbolt can be set further in. You may also have to move the battpack furtherback closer to rearwheel so the weight is set at the rear tire. This will help alot. Try also a 11 tooth cluchbell and you will do wheelies rather easily.Putting the clutchshoes in wrong way (grabb in instead of slide in) will bite better in clutchbell. I did also some moddings in my engine I used before (OS CV 15-x 0,56 hp) but thatīs another story isnīt it?
Most parts are modded on the bike (have a closer look) to make it easyer for me, I used NF chassis plates allover. I will replace them soon with carbon as soon as they are finished.

my suggestion is to SHOW people a couple "in action" like at RC car meets or something...pics,pics,pics.
Most people don't know of the "coolness" of these....knowlege of those ones interested in RC is the best thing to get these ones interested in RC BIKES.
When we went to a local RC car race..our table was flocked with people in waves. MUCH interest and astonishment. In time and with some showings some functions I believe it will catch on well.

I hope the bikes will catch on. I've known about NF bikes for a couple of years, but didn't actually get one until a few months ago, and only because I got a good deal on one on ebay ($200 bucks-- never run). Now I'm hooked.
Every time I go out with the NF or the TT, I spend about half the time running the bike, and the other half talking to guys who come up wanting to know where I got it, how it stays up, etc! They freak out when they see how fast they are, and watch it powersliding out of a turn. Nobody around here has ever seen them before, even guys who are into R/C.
There is a 1/10 road track about 20 miles from here that a lot of car guys go to on the weekends. I'm going to take the bikes up there soon and see what happens. Might end up with a few guys to race against after that!!!

we got a similar reaction when we took our bikes to the racing location and set them up on a table.
It was waaay cool. Many R/Cers never knew they existed (until things just recently started to come out in the R/C magazines)
Much THANKS to the magazine that had the TT on the front cover.

What mag was it? I went to my LHS when it came up on the Yahoo board, but they didn't have any mags with a bike on the cover, and didn't know what I was talking about. I'd like to see it.

Hey you guys! I have a t-maxx off road r/c truck. But I just heard about these r/c bikes. Does anyone have a video of these things?? And are there motocross style off-road ones ??
And how fast can the on road ones go?? electric and nitro?
thanks....

there is a link somewhere around here in RCgroups.com forums..you may have to do a search for video motorcycle or something...
Or just look for the link in all the postings....Nova faor has a good nitro video of theirs....
With a brushless..electrics can almost go as fast as the nitros..depending on gearing/weight etc.

Here (http://www.nitrobike.co.uk/) are also some nice movies
There is someone doing a homemade nitro MX bike, looks very good but project is on hold at the moment. Here is a picture: http://www.crazynutracing.com/images/4SPOKEWEB.gif

Has anyone seen the November issue of R/C Car magazine? I never got my issue even though I have a subscription! My bike was supposed to be in the Readers Rides section. I'm wondering what they said and which picture they used cuz I sent several.

It's only 2 or 3 pages of information but it got my attention right away when I saw it at the LHS. I went nuts but waited and found one on Ebay slightly used for $140.00 US. Nice snag, I should pick it up this week hopefully.
Tha Article was pretty good but it seemed more like an Advertisement, which WORKED. CNR will usually give you a deal if you buy the Farm in Mods that they sell. I will mod mine out asap.
Only problem is the snow starts to fall here soon in Toronto Canada area. I better start Looking for indoor R/C Car tracks and in the Spring, has anyone tried going to a go-cart track?? Some can be bumpy but they are pretty big and usually well laid out.:D

RCMCC
Last Sunday's Meeting went very well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
**We met in Antioch and in attendance was: Ken, Myself (Kevin) Sam, Ian, Rick
We went to Delta Raceway where we put on a little bit of a show with our bikes. We mostly had the 1/8 bikes (I forgot my transmitter for mine) and EVERYONE was halfway astonished by the looks and preformance of the bikes on the BANKED oval they have there.
*** Rick had a very cool wireless MINI-Cam for the bikes so we strapped it to my 1/5 TT R1 and did some chasing and trailing...one word::::::::::: AWSOME ::::::
The video was shot both following a Kyosho HOR and leading a kyosho (video with back tire in the shot) OH MY GOSH..what can I say????? awsome!!!!!!!
We need to know how to put in on the web of some shots of the video we made with the mini wirelss cam.
The Delta people said we could run a class there as long as we had 3 or more in our classes! Delta- We just may take you up on your offer!
RCMCC: Good to see the effort of you guys, We missed Dave & Ray there and all the others who are associated with RCMCC (Radio Control Motorcycle Club of California)
I will try to post the few pictures I have gotten to take...but the video..well Rick may have to help on that...if he can figure it out!
Its well worth the wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It looks like the real thing! No sound..but so what? hahahaha
We got to look at the video on the TV when we went to Ken's boat there at the marine. Thank you Ken for your hospitality, I know all of us appreciated your invite on your big honkin boat!
Until next time......November 2, 03 (2 weeks) location to be announced. ;)

I hope to bring a few guys together soon, The Great White North R/C Bike Club. Can you say ICE RACING!! get out some studs and put them on your stock tires, cause winter is coming to us up north. Seriously I am looking for spikes!

Kevin, you can put your video on RC Pics. If you don't have an account already, sign up it's free. Then just upload your video like you would a picture. Fill in the titles, etc and when it's finished uploading it will give you a link you can show to everyone. If the video is way long and a huge file you may want to break it down into smaller segments. I usually keep my video uploads to a max of 10MB and everyone seems to be OK with that.

Cool, I'll post some videos of our earlier RCMCC meeting in September.
BTW, if anyone gets to see the digi cam video, Kevin is the one driving the TT (held the spy camera taped on) and I followed him driving Rick's Suzuki HOR. Later on I started following him with my NSR HOR, but my battery tray broke.
Anyways, the video proves that Kyoshos can be just as fast as TT's, because I was on his tail the whole time!!! HAHAHA!!!
Kevin did some very nice driving by the way!!
-Ian
Just a tip, on oval tracks use the Kyosho front tire with a lightweight flywheel for HORs. If you put a solid front insert in it stock steering is really unstable on the banks. Direct steering is the way to go.

I can't wait to see the onboard footage of you guys racing, it also sounds like things are coming along nicely with the club too!... ;)
Hey, try putting the cam on the bike facing the other way and get some rear view action, see the other bikes chassing!... That would be cool...

"WE DID IT" There are both views....front AND rear (with the tire and chain in the view)
Its way cool to see the back tire going up and down with the HOR tailing from the rear....seeing the HOR lean and looking towards the camera is just plain BOSS.
I will have to get with Rick ..he has the video. Some lines in it some (reception was "fair" only through the chain link fence) *Extension cords in order for next time for better reception from the wireless camera*
:D
Thanks Ian for the compliment on driving the TT....you were not so bad yourself getting into the video with the bike!
Kevin
