The application must utilize Direct3D or OpenGL for the glasses to
funtion and Word doesn't. <g> :)
I've heard they can be used to even view DVD movies but I haven't tried
this myself.
The software doesn't need to be specially written for the 3D glasses to
work either. Most games will work with 3D glasses, and if a freeware
flight sim such as Pre-flight works very well with them then that's just
fan-****in'-tastic. :)

If you can afford them or know anybody that has access to them, GET THEM!
You'll be truly impressed at how your monitor can be turned from a 2D
flat screen into a 3D virtual window. :)

The 3D glasses are truely amazing.
I have been using them with FMS and MS FlightSim2002.
Makes flying in the sim alot easier because you have the 3rd dimension. MS FlightSim 2002 was awsome before, but with the 3d it's a whole different experience.
Definately worth the money.

I also have them, and they really do work. The higher power your system the better, since 60fps translates to 30fps for each of your eyes.

On the downside, I found I was invariably left with a headache, and stopped using them.

My ASUS Nvida card came with 3D glasses but I've never hooked them up. Sounds like something worth doing!

I bought these after reading the post and found they don't work very well with ATI video cards and older monitors. Seems you need an nVidia card and a newer monitor.

Martin. The only way I have made them work with FMS is to run the program in full screen mode. If you are in a window the 3d software can't split the screen as needed.
Hope this helps.

I cant see the full screen option...either in view or resolution???
I thought by hitting Ctrl T I get the 3D mode but it does not
happen. OK with other games.

MarintL,

If you check the resolution menu item, it gives you full screen resolutions under the Window item. Just select one of those. To work with the 3D glasses, it needs to be the same resolution as your other games and or exactly half the setting you have in the ED Controller software. Doesn't work on my machines with the ATI video card and slower monitor. My monitor can only handle 2 x 56Hz or 112Hz so that's what I run ED Controller at. It barely works with my current monitor at 800x600.

Good Luck!

From eDimensional Tech support.....

I found the game you are talking about. It is not a game, it's a
simulation application. This application is not using directx or openGL
so it can't be converted in to 3-D.

I was told it worked..that is why I bought it :(

HMMM, I don't think they have all the info needed. FMS does use DirectX. It wouldn't work without it.

FMS is in full 3D on my system, works great.

You mention eDimensional. My 3d Glasses are from X3D. But, i do believe they are exactly the same product.

Very curious indeed.

Martin, here is a pic of the 3D split screen in FMS.
You can forward the pic to eDimensional and ask them why it works for me.
My comp setup: AMD 1.3, and an Nvidia Gforce4 128MB card. The rest of the machine is nothing special. The 128 card is recent, my old card was an Nvidia 32MB and it worked also.

I really hope you get this resolved, because in 3d the sim is amazing.

Very cool, and the way the 3D glasses are supposed to work. The EDimensional folks used to support nVidia only, so they work better with those video cards out of the box. They also have problems with the older and the newest versions of DirectX. Their sweet spot is version 7 and 8 I think.

I'm guessing I'd want to buy an nVidia graphics card and a beefed up monitor, one that'll go above 120Hz scan rate to support the 3D glasses at normal 1024x768 resolution.

On my machine at home with an ATI card and the monitor that has to scan at 56Hz standard 112Hz 3D mode, it does not work with FMS although it almost works OK with Unreal Tournament 2003 but not UT game of the year edition. So the answer is, your mileage may vary.

Ggunners, I too ran into the ATI Rage problem. I forgot to mention that I did have a 16MB ATI card at first and it worked, but was SLOW. When I switched to the Nvidia 32 it was blazing fast with a frame rate above 80 per sec, resulting in glass smooth graphics. I haven't noticed any real difference between the 32 and 128 Nvidia cards, except with MSFS 2K2. Oh, I am also using DirectX9.

I have a Samtron 96B 19" monitor, using 85Hz to 120Hz refresh rate. Payed less then 150.00 for the monitor at Office Depot. GREAT DEAL.

You guys probably already know about this place but TigerDirect.com has some shockingly low prices on hardware. IE my Nvidia AGP8X GeForce4 128 Ti4280 Medusa card was less then 150.00, everywhere else the cost ws above 260.00.

Cooool.....must be something I am not doing right :(

Pre-Flight works fine for me..but is not such a crash hot
simulator..doesnt fly right..I like the moving surfaces through!!

I have Geforce 8 MMX and the 3D effect is fantastic on all games..especially Aquanox.

Does FMS automatically install DirectX or I have to do something
extra.?????

MartinL,

FMS does not install DirectX. You can download it from the Microsoft site.

Microsoft's DirectX Site (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx)

Comes with games and Microsoft Operating Systems.

I haven't been able to get FMS to go 3D on my machine with an ATI card but others with nVidia cards have been successful. Makes me think I'll purchase a $100 video card and see if it helps.

Nathan from eDimensional asked me wheither FMS can go full screen, otherwise it wouldnt work..so dont waste your money just yet. Somehow eDimensional system work diff to other 3D glasses. I think I have wasted my money..I only bought it for
FMS. :(
