Hi,

I have been playing briefly with the Pre Flight Sim. I am a newbie just about to order my first electric micro, a hummingbird, with seperates and most likly the hornet CP upgrade.

My question is: How realistic is Pre-Flight (or any other sim for that matter)? Will I be able to learn/enhance my ability to fly with one of these apps?

Thanks
for you help

It will help you understand and get a feel for the controls. Sounds liek you're talking about helicopters so for your purpose Pre-Flight is probably the best of the free sims. FMS is better for fixed-wing IMO.

No simulator will teach you to fly. They can all help, particularly if you use them with some purpose and don't just play about with them.

Yes, I was talking about Heli's. Thanks Steve for your response.

Do you think (for Heli's) that Preflight is better than G2?

Can't help you there, sorry. I don't fly helis (except in simulators). RF G2 is certainly a lot more expensive but I don't know how much better it is or even if it is better.

sorry, the quality of that game is as good as the money you are spending on it. my judgment: nice game but no relation to the real thing. Something moves on the screen but that is far away from a simulation, flight physics, model behaviour. Other sims ... cost some money but simulate somthing that is pretty close to reality. they let you experience errors and that's the training effect. simon

Preflight helis perform like planks... Real helis have translational lift when not hovering and Preflight does not model this behaviour. RealFlight G2 does a much better job on helis..

I recently added helicopters into my sim:

http://www.rowlhouse.freeserve.co.uk

It attempts to model translational lift, ground effects and turbulence - I'm not a heli flyer myself so can't/don't make any claims that it's accurate, but it might be worth looking at. Unlike the other free heli sems (FMS and preflight) you really need to actively fly the helicopter - it doesn't just sit there in a perfect hover.
