Did he lose radio contact? Or was it just bad planning? Looks like he was trying to do a low knife edge pass, and had no rudder input? It would be nice to hear what happened to learn something from it.
If you pause the clip frame by frame you can see the turbine coming free and tumbling at a high rate of speed off the left side of the screen. Exhaust gas still coming out!
Quite shot and a good thing no one was injured. I do love the sound and speed of those turbines!!

Sheesh! Glad no one was hurt! I'm sure that turbine tumbling away from the wreckage had some momentum behind it!

if u ask me that was just a stupid pilot look at the speed of that jet to how close he is to the people :S what if it had a slight glitch on the elevator and made it turn into the crowd that would kill someone for sure

G'day Kevin, are you refuring to the Avro Vulcan? It is one awesome model it has 2 X TJT-3000 turbines, each with just 27.5 lb thrust. The model weighs 150 lb ready to fly and cruises fine at half throttle!!!!!! check the Vulcan fly-by video out in the video gallery at the link - http://www.TJT.bz/board

Thanks Christopher2. Your right, the crashes are interesting in a "freaky" sort of way. Its always devastating to crash your R/C pride and joy, but even more so, it seams, when one of these beauties doesn't make it home.
Merry Christmas to all.

Watching those turbines fly makes me want to learn how to fly them without the crash endings. That video really brings home the need for safety awareness. The debris from that crash could've injured any onlooker very seriously, thank God that did not happen! Stay safe everyone.

wow i cannot believe how easy it is to get one of the jets departed. you can deffinatly see in christophers video that the jets stall really easy. still really cool though:)

Cary C. -
The Kangaroo/HotSpot in that video did not stall - the pilot accidentally input right rudder instead of left.
Turbines stall the same as any other high wingloading model.
Cabbie22, turbines fly fine without the 'crash endings'. They require more more skill and much more care and planning while flying but an experienced pilot will not have any problem flying one. This is the reason that the AMA requires that turbine waiver applicants have at least 50 succesful flights on a 150 MPH+ model and must perform demonstration flights before two AMA CD's (one must be a waiver holder), as well as attending a ground school on turbine operations, and complete a questionnaire on turbine safety and operating characteristics before you can fly one.
Not a flame, just did not want anyone to misunderstand turbine safety.

i was not talking about the kangaroo. sorry for the confusion. i was talking about the long video that had a bunch of crashes on it. sorry, i should have said that.

Okay, okay, between the videos of crashes 'n the pix of Uncle Joes showing an Me 262 post crash you guys are startin' ta freak me out already, lol.
It sure doesn't take a lot to reduce one of these jets to a pile of smoldering debris does it? A second too late on a correction, an up insteada a down, left insteada right and they sure become small pieces really fast.
I can't get that first video to download either, I get the same I/E cannot access this w/out a password prompt. I'd sure like to see it, even if I watch between my fingers like I did that one with the german music track, OUCH that was a LOT of money in that video. I liked the look on that one guys face as he turned away, it was an "I want my Mommy!" moment for sure.
What was that previous post in here about what the AMA requires to certify turbine pilots? I've found their site, but my pc has a problem with PDF files, so I didn't bother to download any of their stuff. Is it true you hafta have that kinda flight experience to fly at an AMA sanctioned event? If so I better find my local club fast...
take care,
todd aka TD-Gunz

... if the guy flying the plane did not own it, and the guy standing behind him did!
The Kangoroo was not privately owned, it was part of the Norwegian Army Target Drone Team. I spoke to the pilot last sunday and he told me he had applied right rudder while left would have been the appropriate... Dumb thumbs.
The model was a good 60+' away from the pilot and another 50' from the spectators. Its trajectory was pointed away from any people/property.
Wasnt much left... ;)

An AMA Turbine Waiver is required to operate a gas turbine model at any AMA field...not just an AMA sanctioned event. Even if you're there alone on a Wed. afternoon. There are a lot more "rules n' regs" involved in flying turbine models in the US than the typical park flyer pilot might imagine. No one, who hasn't flown one, should ever assume anything about these models or why they crashed.
