I noticed that the Goldberg 330 profile has a weight spec of 3.5 to 4.5 lbs. Was wondering what you guys thought........I know a 46LA will hover my Magic easily, which is about 4lbs all up......do you guys that own one of these Goldberg 330's think it would hover with a 46LA? Surely, if the spec is correct, using a 46LA would keep the weight down to at least the middle of the range I would assume..........are they light?

thanks!

well, I had one, and there is no way that this plane will come in under 5 lbs. I have known plenty of Extreme 330 owners besides myself and no plane came in under 5 lbs. I had a OS 46FX on mine with a UT muffler and that was about right, but is also a $65 muffler. I do not think the 46LA would be even close to hover this plane. If it does, you will definitely have no pull out. If I would get another one (which I wouldn't), I would definitely choose either a Irvine 53 (would be my choice) or OS50SX and put a tower muffler on either one. It will definitely need that extra power for an unlimited performance.
The Extreme 330 isn't realy that good of a profile. I think that a Morris the Knife or the Sudokhoi ARF's (if we where talking kit build planes then there are other choices of course) perform much better. If this is your first Profile, you can't go wrong with a Knife. Will do a little bit of all, and is probably the easiest to hover.

overall, what plane do you think would be light enough for a 46la to hover? Im kinda sick of the Magic, but the 46la handled it well.

thanks

Well,

I must have been lucky on the weight, because my 330 tips the scales at 4lb. 13oz.

That being said......I'm running a 46FX with stock muffler, and it will barely pull out of a hover, so the 46 LA wouldn't have much of a chance, I don't think.

Brad, not trying to offend here at all, ok dude? It's hard to say what plane would be good for that engine 'cause we wouldn't have that engine. It probably runs fine and all, but it power to weight isn't very good at all. The thing is for serious hoverwork you want to hover at or just over 1/2 throttle.

If you're serious about Fun Fly planes, start with the engine and work backwards. Could you get a better engine, say a .46fx or TT .46 PRO? Then the plane selection gets really BIG!!!

But, if you'll build a plane, the knife kit can come in at 4# and might work out with the engine you have, proped right of course.

I hope that doesn't sound harsh, just the facts as I see it.

Try a H9 Pizazz, I have one with a 46LA and it hovers fine, the pullout is good, I can harrier and waterfall so far everything I have tried has worked. There is another person at the field that has a Pizazz with a 61FX his has completely more power then mine but so far I have not seen him do anything I can’t do with mine. His just does it with a lot more authority. I’m new at glow and 3Ding but so far I have found it easy using the Pizazz.

well, I ended up getting a Fun Air 40 from Jet Hobbies. It is much like the Magic only probably a bit better. The Magic was 4lbs and this one came out at 3.5lbs! AND on my 46LA, it hovers at about 3/8 throttle. Pulls out hard too! The only thing I really don't like is the transparent covering. I got orange and wish I hadn't . It is more of a burnt yellow color which is ugly but also does not lend itself to the low yellow sun we are getting now that the wintertime is coming so the plane can disappear quickly. But if kept in close, it is okay. It was a bit windy here this weekend, so I didn't get to hover it much, unless you count angles lower than 45 degrees as a hover <s> but hopefully, by next weekend I can wring this thing out. The wind settled down and I was actually able to torque roll it today a bit.

This really is a decent little plane. I was pleased and surprised at how light it came out.

And for a 4lb or less plane, the 46LA is very well suited. Don't let anyone tell you guys they are not worth having. I had a 46fx on my Magic at first and it SUCKED. When I put on the 46la which took off about a half a pound, the plane became pretty fun. Same here, its all about weight guys.

thanks for the replies!

(Hey, you still got that 46fx? I could put it to use!)

I had a couple o questions about your FunAir 40. What weight did the plane come in at ready to fl with yor LA?
How do you like it compared to the Magic ad does the wing rubber band on or bolt on? Then again it might be glued like the Pizzaz I have (aka led sled 5.2lb), ood plane but heavvvey.;)

It came out at exactly 3.5 lbs dry with the 46LA. I had this same engine on a Magic that was 4 lbs dry and I can definitely see the 1/2 pound difference in a hover. This thing blasts off like a rocket with the 46LA and the LA engine is really light weight. It floats on the wings even lighter than the Magic did too, but with the lighter plane it tolerates even less wind than the Magic. We flew it a bit yesterday when the wind settled down to nothing and torque rolled it quite a bit which seems easier to do than with the Magic. It will knife edge at higher throttles but the pitch and roll coupling is so bad it will actually roll all the way around using only rudder! Anyway, it is just not a plane for that kind of stuff. Overall, better behaved and much lighter than the Magic and the 46LA is the perfect engine for this plane......and you cannot beat the deal at $98 shipped, NO TAX!

so, do I recommend this plane? Definitely, as long as you don't expect precision aerobatic flight. It is mainly for hovering and what not.........get one! <s>

by the way, the wing bolts on. They give you two metal bolts to bolt it on with. They work okay, but I might change them over to 1/4 x 20 nylons in the future. Need to see how long it lasts before I dork it into the ground! hehe
