Can the F9F be converted to turbine? I have the plans and it is shown as a ducted fan. I was just wondering what has to be changed to accept a turbine engine, and what would be the best size engine for it.

Hans- This model performs very well indeed on turbine power. Size of turbine will depend on your models weight and flying surface e.g. grass or sealed strip and conditions of your flying surface. I have personally seen the Ziroli F9F fly from grass fine with a JPX 240 approx 11-12 pounds thrust. I would personally fit a 15-20 pound thrust KJ66 turbine (TJT-2000, AMT Mercury) etc. if you wanted a comfortable power reserve...If you are flying only from sealed strip a Wren MW-54 size turbine is fine also.

Marty,
Thanks much for the info. I got the jet bug when I went to the Maine jet rally a couple weeks ago! That's all I need, a new twist to the hobby!

I thought about making it a D/F and later converting to turbine after I got used to it and could get my waiver from the AMA.

Will be sometime next year as I still have a B-17 to finish up.
