The Blacksheep Exhibition Squadron electric R/C and C/L fun fly is coming up at the Sepulveda Basin (L.A., CA), Sunday, November 11. This is always an interesting and popular fun fly, open to any electric flier with an AMA license. AeroVironment is always in attendance with their micro UAVs, and there's a good mix of slow, fast, aerobatic, and just plain weird fliers.
The CD is Tony Naccorato from the T & A Hobby Lobby, 818-842-5062.
If you're in So. Cal, you should plan on attending.

Rain, rain, rain, so I packed it in and went home. Guys are still flying lite sticks and little stuff but the hot stuff either never showed up or never got out of their cars, like me. Brought 5 EDF's too. Oh well.
Not good day.

Got rained on, both flights with the "Senioritas".. difficult to land when the glasses are covered with water.. but any landing you can walk away from.. :)
Back to the desert where it may be windy, it may be cold, but it DRY! :D
Some nicely done aerobats, particularly a Cub with a Jeti 45? motor went well..
And a Ta-152, Astro 05g, 11x7 APCe, and 10x1600 Panasonic Nimhs was very impressive for flight duration and speed.
Aero Environment had a 5 inch span F8F! Didn't see it fly, but "it flies in the wind tunnel."
.

Well, thats a fairly good picture of what things looked like in the morning, but it improved as the day went on. People were flying all day - even the light stuff as it never got too windy. Stayed cold and cloudy till afternoon and then, except for one brief shower in the afternoon, it cleared. At the end, I was flying indoor aircraft (SoSlo2) in bright sun and dead calm conditions. There were lots of people and airplanes - about the same as previous BlackSheep Fun Flys. I was glad I overcame my doubts when I looked out the window at the damp streets in the morning. I won best Old Timer (probably because I brought the only old timers) and a Dumas Mr. Mulligan in the raffle. Now , where is that great thread about converting a Mr. Mulligan to electric RC.
Gerry
PS. Thanks to Tony and Adie and all who worked so hard to put on a great meet.

It was actually a fun day but I was dissapointed that so many people were scared away by a little drizzle. I don't even think that qualified as rain. Never-the-less, the weather got better towards noon and early afternoon so lots of pilots started to fly. Mat's tiny planes were absolutely amazing. We were all jealous that he gets paid to do that. If there are any test pilot openings I'm in:D Dan and Daren showed off their new EDF Sukois but there were still many other cool planes missing from the fun-fly:( Oh well, even a bad day for flying is better than a good day at work;)

It was more than drizzle and cold. The lawn was so wet my planes would have been
damaged, silkspan doesn't like it very well, it reanimates. I think the event should
have been rescheduled, by the time the rain sort of stopped the event was almost
over. I wasn't scared off by the rain just pissed off, and with scratch built EDF's why
risk it when you don't have too. I might have flown if I brought some kit plane like
most people there, but some of us have more to lose than a replaceable kit.

The rain was a bummer but we still managed to have good fun. Sorry your planes don't like the wet stuff. I wanted to see your new little HE. EDF fly too.

Troy, do you think there is enough room at that field to land an F5D?

Yah, definately. They fly Quarter-40s and other runway hogs there all the time. I've flown my F5D there as well. Make sure to put a thick skid on the fuz, you'll want to land on the pavement.
Oh, and here's a pic of the coolest plane at the meet and probably one of the smallest RC planes in the world:eek:

Matt definitely had the coolest toys. He had an even smaller Bearcat Reno racer, but it didn’t fly. Later in the day, he flew a cool micro ornithopter (sp?), which I believe he said cost $20,000. Must be nice having the government sponsor your hobby.
Troy – what kind of motor set-up were you using on the 109? It (you) certainly flew well – loved those inverted passes.
Greg – didn’t mean to discriminate against you North Cali types. Heck, I’ll even buy you a beer next time you’re down here.

It's a large brushed Platenberg (18 series I think) on 22 cells. It's actually my friend Mark's plane but he let me show it off a little. The kit is a .40 size modeltech from Hobby People. I wrote an article on it a while ago in my RCezine electric column www.rcezine.com

Oh I wish it were mine:(, they're Matt's from AeroVironment. Plus, I don't wear scarves above 30 degrees F.:D

I'm thinking maybe the safest way to launch it might be from a carrier airplane.. lots of altitude to get it under control once it's released..
Tossing something that small is probably fairly fraught with difficulty..
