My Maxx is currently in a million pieces as I perform a thorough rebuild for
my new 2.5 engine. My goal is keeping things light as possible, and I like
the idea of eliminating the ez-start system I normally love so much. Anyone
have any experience or thoughts about the rotostart conversion??

Don't know about the rotostart, but I used a pullstart for a while. The one
way bearing was just as difficult to keep working, but a shot of WD-40
through a hole punched in the center of the backing works pretty well. And
replace the metal backplate if the shaft gets sloppy.

Well Justin, that's a thought I hadn't really considered after watching so
many struggle with their pull-starts, but since the engine version I bought
IS the one with the pull-start, it might be best to leave it on and see if
all this craziness about saving weight everywhere pays off. I sure have
talked my share of smack about pull-starts tho'. Another idea, I think it
would be cool if someone designed a "conversion kit" that incorporated the
stock Traxxas EZ-start system into a totally off-truck system, with a clip
that hooked up the glo-wire to the plug and a starting rod that was inserted
through the shock towers into the engine. The pluses of this idea are
weight-savings, the igniter and the diagnostic board, and being able to
count on Traxxas parts for rebuild time.
Also in my quest for lightness I have four imex paws on velocity dishes, I
think they are the lightest out there, I really would like featherweight
wheels, you know all that racer-talk about rotating mass, do you have any
other thoughts on the lightest wheels and tires available for the Maxx,
later!

Of course I got the FOC spinning in the gearbox, but I hadn't considered
ditching the front diff. Mmmm. That sucker sure is heavy. What's the
driving feel like without a front diff? I know I have to keep the eight
shocks (stockers) in place for those big air Sunday landings but I will
definitely go down to four for casual back-yard running......good idea. I
assume the inside four stay on, right?

When you go to 2wd, you have to soften the oil in the rears by 5 wt. The
Sport Maxx is a 2wd T-maxx. See if anyone has some good setups for the
Sport maxx. I don't really have THAT much experience with 2wd maxxes.

We race trucks at our track and IMO the LAST thing you want to do is make
yours 2WD!
We had a guy come to the track with a Sport Maxx and everyone tried it and
got it going the best it could and it turned out not to be competitive with
the 4WD at all. I mean it went a lap down every 5 laps no matter who drove
it!
Don't want to step on anyone's toes but thought you might want to hear
this.
The fastest Maxx we have racing isn't even a Maxx anymore lol. It has so
many options on it......but does it ever fly! The stock (newer) Maxxes and
stock Savages seem to be very equal depending on the track. If the track
setup is "tight" and technical then no one seems to have an advantage. If
the track is "loose" and has a couple long straights then the horsepower
takes over.
You just can not beat 4WD for handling. Most of all ..........have
fun...............it's just a hobby. We just raise some serious H@LL and
catch sick air over the jumps :):)
