Just about finished building my Bolink EconoRail. The manual indicated that it included a spur gear of 48 pitch, and Tower's website suggested a 14t pinon, so thought the kit came with a spur. Mine did not, so went the biggest I had, a 96t gear. I have a Speed Gem 9X2, mech speed control (out of an ABC 550 fighter elec boat). I have a bunch of 1600nmhyd picked up new from BigLots (they were about a buck apiece). I was planning on using 22cells, so will it sit and smoke the tires :D , or be so overgeared it barely leave's the line  ?

THAT looks very cool.

Kinda gives me an idea of what to do with some of those old can motors I got laying around.
Give em a 22 cell death sentence. :)

Any predictions on amp draw ?

The mech speed control had a 20amp fuse which blew the first runup;) Replaced it with a 30Aer, and ran up fine on 6 cells. Will proably rig up an on/off switch to channel 3, use a 3rd servo to activate it. If I can use the 3rd servo's other "direction" movement to shut off the switch, and release a parachute (since it doesn't have any brakes:rolleyes: ) and go with a 50A fuse!

I dont know about the amp draw, but with 12 cells on my 10-turn Ti, I
had to cut the comm every 3 runs, and replace the brushes every 7. Be
expecting things to melt in the motor, like the epoxy, or winds to
blow, and the endbell on mine melted after a while.
Are you going to be running a micro switch?
I ran mine in my TC3, so there was a little more resistance. Also be
warned that at the speeds you will be going, body and wing downforce
will play a big part in performance. You dont want your wing at too
steep of an angle, cause then it will harm performance at higher
speeds (more drag than you want)

Just my 5 cents:)

Zach, thanks for the reply. This is definetly a "science experiment", expect to do a John Force imitation:rolleyes:

I might tone it down a little and try 7X1700 nicads first, then could easily bump it up to 14X1700 (just make a series jumper, and hook up my second pre-made pack). What do you think about a good starting point for gearing. I downloaded a freeware gear calculator, when I plugged in the vaules (direct-drive, 14Tpinon, 96Tspur) it said a top speed of 17mph at 40K RPM. That doesn't sound like a good starting point. Any info appreciated.

I am a newbie to Dragsters, where do I get a micro-switch, and do you know of any good internet forums that have this kinda info?

Thanks
Jerry
