I am fianaly deciding to get and Incidence Meter and don't know which one to get. I am looking at two that are about the same price.

the robart one . http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/rob/rob404.htm

and the great planes one http://www.greatplanes.com/accys/gpmr4020.html

I am looking for versatility and ease of use, they both are about the same in price but I want to hear what you guys have to say.

Save your money. Put the model on a flat surface so that the reference line is parallel to the surface. Measure the height to the trailing edge. Measure the height to the leading edge. Subtract one from the other and use the difference to draw a right triangle with the chord measurement. Measure the angle with a protractor. If you know trigonometry you can use trigonometry to calculate the angle instead of drawing it and measuring it. The angle is the arcsine of the height difference divided by the chord.

If you are shimming a flight surface to a predetermined angle of incidence, you just have to find the height difference by drawing it or calculating it. Rearranging the equation, the height difference is the chord times the sine of the angle.

OB,

If you find Ollie's method a little overwhelming get the Robart, you won't be sorry. I have one, wish I had two!. Rgds, Jeff

It's your choice OB but if I were you I wouldnt let myself be dumbed down by a gadget like an incidence meter. You will be worth more to your self if you learn to do it with simple measuring tools and by using your brain.

I also have the Robart, last time I used it was to accurately align the two wing panels of an ARTF while they were being epoxied together (after the joiners developed some slop, leading to different incidences left/right when bolted down on the fus. ).

Useful piece of kit.
