Thought this might be a fun thread to start.
If all you pusher fans (sounds like a contradiction!)
List details/photos of your models here, with motor/prop/battery/esc/model size, weight and so on ,it would make a great reference thread for others in the future to peruse..never know, might encourage a bigger flurry of pusher prop jets.

So,Tim,Tom,Bruce,Pippin,Ron,Steve,etc.etc. Let's have it all here, with links to video's if you have them.

Matt.
Flying pics also welcome..;)

Twin Permax 480, Guenter prop on 8x1700Nicad's

I wrecked the nose of this thing (the pushrod-connector came loose so it spriralled into the ground:( ) I don't know if i will repair it, i'll see..........................

Great idea!

I finished a Mirage F1 some weeks ago. Construction is mainly balsa. Some parts were done using foam blocks, which I shaped as needed.
length: 56"
wing span: 32"
The plane is nearly scale, so no wing enlargement or whatsoever.
Flying weight is 57oz, with 12 RC2000 cells and a Mega 22/20/3.
Prop is a 7x4" Camprop. The plane is quite fast and nicely climbs away. I feel that she can handle even more cells, so 16 cells and a bigger motor are on my wish list.
As for the colour scheme, I actually wanted to paint her in SAAF colours but found a nice Tiger Meet scheme after googleing around, a decision now I still have to make.

That Tiger meet F-1 color scheme would be my choice....Hands Down!!! It's GGRREEAAT! What is your amp draw on the MeGa -3 turn?

Do you want old ones as well on this thread? My MB-339 is already plastered all over the EZone...:p Due to my overwhelming enthusiasm...:)

Pippin

Tech. specs for my Gripen: 12 2000mah cells, Mega 22/20/3, prop 8x4 (Graupner Slim Prop), flight time round about 4min, mostly throttle open. The bird is built from a plan (Claus Franken, Offshore Electronic).
Next, I will convert my F 16 and even make a SAAB Viggen (have got a glas fuse for this ship). Push prop is the solution for those modern strong climbing fighters.

For the F 86 Sabre/Mig 15-generation, I stay with EDF.

Anything pusher jet related Bruce, this thread will be a collection of data and photos for pusher jets,so repeating stuff is no problem.

Thanks for the input already,more pix,more data!!(please)

Hopefully will be an interesting reference for all interested in pushers.

I've only gotten started on it, but Here's a pic with my first pusher-jet project in it. Also shows some of my other planes (forgive me for the slimer), a World models Aircombat Yak-9, a Midwest Aerolectric, GWS Zero, Unicorn Wing, and just out of view is my broken IFO MkIII, and retired GWS Tigermoth.

The bluecore piece is my new project - Any guesses as to whay I'm building? (probably not:D ) It will be speed 400 pusher, have 22 inch span and be about 42 inch long. I will have to carve and shape almost the whole thing. If it flies well, when I get enough money, it's getting a twin BL setup probably mega 16 3 turns.

bipeflyer
Sep 04, 2003, 03:32 PM
Thanks Kenny!
Nice looking SR71 there, something I have had a yearning for with pusher power,I think it would work very well.

Only thing,if you install just one Mega 16/15/3 or 4 in the tail,it will be a rocket ship.At the size you mentioned, that will pan out very well for one pusher.
If you want to go 2 pushers (b/less) aim for at least 52-55" span.
Would still haul!;)
Please keep us informed,me in particular!

Matt.

I plan to shape the fuelage, and engine pods by layering the blue FFF, and sanding/dremeling them to shape. It will be a lengthy process, but having the correct shape will be worth it. Then I'll fill the cracks, and smooth it out and paint it - flat black of course, I think I'll go with the NASA bands on the tail for visibility (however limited)

this one will be one motor only. If I do a 2 motor BL version it will certainly be bigger (but I'm not to sure about 52 plus inches - that would make it over 8.5 ft long and I don't have a clue how I would transport something that big in my little hatchback. But it would be cool:D ) probably in the 42-48 inch WS range, with retracts of course.

When I really get into it, I'll post a new thread on it. Really busy with work right now, but it is my current project.

Bruce,

I use the 640x480 size. I limit the KB to 87562 which is under the limit. I use Photoshop to resize and when I save as a jpeg I choose the # 5 setting to limit the size. Also my digital camera shoots web based shots at 640x480.

You can do it.

Andy,

That looks great.

Now lets post some videos too. If you look back to the first page you'll see I posted a video for the Vampire from almost 4 years ago.

As long as we're doing BD5s, if you did this up in the Coors Light scheme you could call it a pusher BD5J. GWS S-1 drive through a carbon driveshaft, 8oz, 8cell 300 nimh, 175 squares, all balsa.

Wattage Mirage
Astro 020 5T
8 Hecells
14.2 amps about 4.5 min flight
4.75x4.75 APC
AUW 17 oz
About 104 mph

Or Same Setup except 8 CP1300's on a 5x5 prop about 110mph wing loading is kinda screwy, but hey! you never notice unless you drop below 80mph, 7 minute flight's, AUW 20 oz, and pulls about 19 amps.

And another fun one is the Chris Golds Venom (scale flying models plans, Volume 6, issue #35), 27oz AUW , Plate wing, 8 RC 2000's even, on a 6V sp400 with a 3.55 gear box and a 8x5 prop. Pulls about 9 amps and will fly for 1 million hours! LOL J/K flies for over 10 min on part throttle. This same setup was in my Hobby Flight 747 which hauled for such a big plane. Flew so well and fast I snapped a wing with a high G-turn. I miss that plane

One more

A Sonic Wedgie! Just a plane old wedgie with 2" cut off the tips and a Mega 16/15/3 on a 5x5 prop, pulls around 20 amps on 8 KR 1400,s, AUW 21oz. This thing smokes my Mirage and it's a wing! And damn that T-38 is still a awesome looking plane.

mega 16 /15 /3
10 cp 1300
not sure about the weight (broke my scale, need to get new one)

Flew great, I think it seemed to like a little bit of wind for a good hand launch.

blue and pink foam, and bulsa construction.

I sure miss this one it was fun to fly, and looked great in the air.

Well, here's my attempted addition. I hosed up it's maiden hand-launch, causing a high sink rate and hard, flat landing. This broke the left wing at the inlet root and broke the all flying stabilizer carbon control spar. I will fix and fly this again, especially with all these cool pusher jets getting me going on the fix up project.

The fix-up will include a fixed stabilizer and elevator control, and I'll use a Lipo pack and a 4 turn instead of the 3 turn and KAN950's. I'll definitely be bungee launching the second edition because of the little wing :o

Hopefully I'll get a :D out of it this time!

real nice 105, and your right ryan, out of all my planes the Venom just looks the best in the air, real authentic. I love flying one when it's foggy outside cause you dip in and out of the fog and it even looks like your flying in eastern europe.

Wow-teriffic response, glad so many of you are building prop jets, seems like a lot of interest. :)

I flew My Flanker today, must be it's 20th or so flight.Unfortunately, after these pics were taken, for some reason from about 60 feet,it rolled over and plunged to the hard stuff.

No idea what happened, plenty of juice left in the pack.

No big thing, just broke the nose off on impact, about 6 hours work to patch things up.
Pulled a servo out too.

I decided to repaint it,I rather fancy the scheme used by Andy M on his RCM Pelikan Flanker in a pic further back on this thread.
Just gotta sand off the blue paint first!

Let's see more pics /data please.F-16 looks nice, what kit please? Looks like the FS one?

Ron,forgot to say,on the 4 turn Mega,a 6x4 prop works great,(APC E)
Use 10 CP 1300's,30 amp ESC (draws 18-20 amps)
Haven't figured the RPM and Watts yet..(about 260-280 watts I think..)AUW RTF Flanker is 30 oz.

The tiger is the F.S. Thet are fragile however I laid in carbon fiber strips in the motor mount area and in the front half of the fuse. Also used fiber tape on the undercarrage. Have had no problems. The big viper is my second Combat models plane, I know a slimer, But they fly sooo good. Also finishing up a G&P F-18 pusher. P.S. Can't wait for your kit!!!!

No new pics, I'm afraid. This one's an oldie - maybe flight #40

Just made flight #74 over the lunch hour today. 15 minutes and 23 seconds showing on the tranny. Unlimited vertical from start to finish. VERY difficult to distinguish the performance dropping as the pack discharges. But the pack does get hotter the longer I fly, so 15 minutes seems to be the practical limit.

Anyway, for jets of this size and weight, I highly recommend this combo:

Mega 16-15-5 brushless motor
Castle Creations 45 amp Speed Controller (with BEC)
4S1P 1950 mah Thunder Power Lithium Polymer pack
16 amps at 14 volts max
5.5x4.3 CAM prop
Just under 17 ounces AUW
24" Wingspan
2 HS-55 servos driving the stabilators
Fanfold construction with Carbon Fiber reinforcement
Loosely based upon a Fiddlers Green paper airplane design

Moto* programs estimate some 90 mph pitch speed and 1:3 thrust to weight. The flight envelope seems to agree ... although I don't think the airframe could handle 90 mph!

More here:

BTW, I'll be adding some new video to that thread shortly.

I know how my Mirages do on a 020, so I can only imagine how psycho that little F-16 is with that setup Tom. Have you tried it on a 4.75x4.75? Thats what I run on my Mirage's and it's good for 100+ mph so I can only imagine what it could do for that thing.

With the photo being a bit fuzzy I can still make out that you have the motors placed in the wings in a pusher config - pretty creative solution to delivering the power required via two relatively inexpensive motors. Do you have landing gear or is it a bungee? What's the performance like?

Some one was kind enough to drag this up from the past in a thread. I couldn't find any pics of it on my computer, must gone a few hard drives ago. Anyway This is the Electric Arrow. I need to build a larger scale version one of these days, maybe for a Mega 20 series, that would be a blast. Anyway thought I'd share, I like the way they advertise this plane, it's called "stand way off scale" but hey! looks enough like it and cut up a plastic soda bottle for the canopy, draw some framing with a sharpie and it looks even better.

The wing planform looks good. Round out that nose a bit, deepen the intakes somehow and it'll take on a much more scale appearance. Specs?

monkamarm2000
Sep 08, 2003, 09:15 PM
yeah it could use a nose job but the way it is it's just wrapped and it keeps it paper light, and the intakes were bigger but I made them smaller for dynamics, but some black paint or coat on them would make them look bigger. Specs were 480 race 8 CP1300's AUW 20oz, then it went 600 BBsp (correction) 12 KR1400's 35oz( stupid but fun setup, then went to 020 8CP1300's for 20oz AUW. Span is 20 inch length 30". And they only take a few hours to build. After I killed it I built another one but never got it airborn, actually I remember me and a buddy were building 2 but I forget what happened to them. I know I built a few wings for them

Your F22 looks VERY nice :)

3 questions,

1. What's the Wings Span & the Lenght of your F22

2. Is it a kit or ARF

3. Does Wattage have a website??

I know you didn't ask me but Wattage's website is CRAP! No specs, they never update. For any details your best bet is Hobby People as I think they are the US distributor.

The F-22 is I guess an ARF but there is some work to putting all the parts together. You epoxy on the wings and fins, bore holes in the tail booms to operate the elevons, etc etc
You can download the manual from the link above.
One thing I've found is that mine seems to fly better with the CG farther aft than recommended. It can "cobra" and enters a deep stall with power off and elevons fully deflected. Looks wierd but is great for landing.
I'm going to move the CG back slowly to see what happens.
I still need 16 clicks (beeps?) of up trim on my Eclipse for launch and the elevons at that setting are noticably angled.
Anybody know the indications I'll get with this delta winged airplane as I approach the aft CG limit?

Has anyone ever tried to put a "stock" pusher setup with the exception of the power being electric to a Combat Model's F-16 or F-18? I was looking at these kits again last week and wondering how a Lenier or Hacker C50 on Lipos would do

It seems like it would be a really nice, bigger sport jet with ROG/Retract fun.

Yup - Robert Oliveira did this with a MaxCim setup. Back when I had the F16N (kit form) I was looking to do the same. He reported a very good flight envelope.

I was debating on buying his new, unused motor/gearbox/exc for $300 USD, which is still for sale, as I understand it.

Here is part of an e-mail exchange that might help:

Ya know ... I used to think pusher jets were not "real" jets and looked down on them. But after following this thread and seeing that amazing video of the Buccaneer... I have completely changed my opinion. Pusher jets are SO cool. I can't wait to build my own.
(Su-34 Strike Flanker... look at that radar boom... it's dying for a prop! )

The photo (Tornado and Hornet) are about 10-11 years old. They are both shaped out of foam. The Tornado was my friend's model.

I think they were both 45 inches long with a shaft drive. The motors were the old MEC War Emergency Motor, with a 2.5:1 gearbox and 9-10 cell 900mah packs (they'd be called CP1700s) today :D

I think the weight was 42-44oz....but it is just a guess. Takeoff distance was about 150-200 feet. The Tornado had a spin problem and both models required careful inputs to loop. The torque from the prop would roll the model if it got too slow at the top.

Tornado is cool too, but I only saw the Sabre when I posted! LOL

Hi Kevin

I noticed the Torque roll at the top of Loops with Mb-339 #1 as well...I guess it needs to enter with more speed or cut the Throttle near the top?? What did you do?

Is the HUN a recent model?? VERY Cool!

Bruce:)

Thanks guys,

You called it Bruce. If it appeared that the model slowed too much cut the throttle. If I didn't have so many other things to do I would like to try one with a BL setup.

The Hun was powered with a TD 051 years ago. It was then flown with a Speed 480.....now it sits in the basement gathering dust :D.

FWIW, I've updated my post on page 4. Now includes links to 2 videos. Sorta allows a comparison of what 130 watts per pound looks like versus 200.

This is my Nigel Hawes Hawk.

Shown here with the original 400 motor. Didn't fly well on this.

Now has Mega 16/15/4, 8 x CP1300SCR, APC-E 6 x 4.
W/S 30 inches. 22oz AUW. Goes like a rocket.

I've got a couple planes I will put on here soon. They are still in testing

Its the

F-20
F-18

and.........

F-14 tomcat.

All "pushers" for brushless/nitro

Only the F-18/F-14 can be changed into Ducted fan Electric.

I'm only focusing on the very efficient "pusher" configuration now and the "Quick Kits" won't be available until later. I wish I had the pics now....but I will take some and post them.

Kevin H .

The website is not up yet..but it will be later at www.foamflyer.com
