I've recently built my first HLG. It's a mosquito class (29.5"ws, 166 in2, 2.2oz, WL 2oz/ft2). The BUG by Carl Dowdy in RCM a few months ago. What a hoot!. I'm so hooked on hand launch I'm almost ready to sell my motors (well...not quite). I've been re-reading all my old issues of S&E Modeler for all the HLG info I can find. I really want to get a nice 60" HLG to get serious with. Any suggestions where to start? I've picked up a few ideas in the magazines but I need some help. First off I assume I'll want something tip launchable as that is the current state of the sport. But what about Poly or Aileron? I could see myself spending $200-300 if the value were really there. I already have micro recievers and servos (Hitec 555, FMA Tetra, HS55, CS 20, CS21, CS10, etc.) Just need to settle on a nice airframe. I'm drawn to the composite ships (Blue Dartars, Raptors, Spectre, Encore-$$$$$!) but wonder if this is overkill for an new to intermediate guy. On the other hand, after specking out that BUG a couple of times I know I'm hooked for life and I'm too poor to buy twice. I'd like to get some thing that's going to last a LONG time (i.e. durable and performs well enough that I won't tire of it as I progress). Any suggestions, advice, guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.
