View Full Version : Swashplate angle....??

I decided to check all the linkages in my Shuttle after fitting a new gyro
cheers Carl :-) and I've noticed that I only get about 9 degrees of cyclic
deflection(out of a possible 30ish) before 'something' starts to bind. Is
this enough for a good cyclic response?
The binding peaks when the flybar is at 90 degrees to the tail (if that
helps?).
When the sticks are centred, all arms and linkages are at 90 degrees apart
from the mixing arms. Could this be it, or am I trying to fix sumat that
ain't broke?

In my opinion...
The question is NOT whether 9 degrees is good enough.
The question is, "Should anyone fly their craft knowing there's a potential
for binding?"
And the answer is, "Absolutely not!"
Correct the binding problem before anymore flights.

I agree.
I was thinking of reducing the servo travel limits, which would mean that
there's no binding, but I would only be left with 9 degrees of movement.
The only question then is, would this be enough?
I'm really looking for a standard pitch range for cyclic, if this exists,
such as the generally accepted -9 to +9 for collective.

Yes, the +9,+3,-9 is "generally accepted, especially if you plan on getting
wild up there.
What does 9 degrees of swashlate angle work out to at the blade roots?
Still, I would try to find out why its binding and correct the problem.
It should not bind at only 9 degree swashplate angle.

Thanks Kev,
My fingers are bloody killing me!
6 degrees?....pah! easy peasy ;-)

To be honest Carl, I ain't had chance to try it in the air yet, but the kids
have gone back to school today, so I should be 'avin a doo' later this week
:-))
Everything seems to work perfectly 'on the ground', and even in standard
mode (on the floor) I can TELL it's in a completely different league to the
POS it replaced.
I have to admit though, the 'return to centre' in HH mode had me a little
confused until I'd given it a LOT of thought! ;o)
btw. I just got a SIM too (Reflex), and IMO,it flies just like mine did
(when the Gyro gain is turned way down), switch to HH and it's like having
an extra hand! I can't wait to see how it feels for real :-))

Rip 'em off altogether. Much less hassle for all involved :)
